Artist BullBucker Humbucker Guitar Pickup Set – Chrome Covered
The Artist BullBucker Pickup Set is a high-performance humbucker set designed for guitarists seeking to elevate their instrument’s tonal palette, power, and clarity. Built around custom-voiced Alnico V bar magnets, the BullBucker set combines punchy high-output bridge tones with smooth, articulate neck response in a striking chrome-covered design. Whether you are retrofitting a factory instrument or completing a custom build, this matched set delivers the versatility and headroom required for modern stage and studio performance.
From glass-like cleans and warm jazz runs to soaring leads and high-gain rhythmic crunch, the BullBucker set provides exceptionally defined response across all dynamic ranges. Engineered to maintain definition under heavy overdrive while offering rich harmonic content when played clean, this set gives players complete control over their signature sound without sacrificing warmth or nuance.
Matched Bridge & Neck Performance
The BullBucker set is carefully calibrated to deliver a seamless dynamic balance between the two pickup positions. The bridge pickup is engineered for powerful, assertive tone with singing highs and aggressive harmonics. Featuring a 15.4kΩ DC resistance, 9.6H inductance, and 52mm pole spacing, it provides rich, full-bodied output that pushes amplifiers into natural saturation effortlessly while preserving crisp string separation and tight low-end tracking.
In contrast, the neck pickup provides a balanced, moderate output designed for sweetness, warmth, and high-register clarity. Voiced with a 7.1kΩ DC resistance, 3.86H inductance, and 50mm pole spacing, it offers an articulate, vocal quality that excels during fast runs and expressive soloing. When clean, the neck pickup produces smooth, glassy tones with rounded lows, while under distortion, it delivers singing sustain that complements the punchier bridge pickup perfectly.
Versatile 4-Conductor Coil-Splitting
Equipped with 4-conductor shielded cable wiring, the BullBucker set offers extensive switching flexibility beyond standard humbucking operation. This versatile wiring scheme allows for easy integration with push-pull pots or mini-toggle switches for authentic coil-splitting capabilities.
By deactivating individual coils, you can instantly transform your humbuckers into crisp, single-coil tones. This dual-identity wiring provides access to bell-like clean textures and funk-friendly spank alongside full humbucking power.
Streamlined Wiring Configuration
Both pickups share a standardised 5-wire colour code (4 conductors plus a bare ground) for straightforward installation and customisation. Below is the wire colour label guide:
Standard Humbucker (Series Wiring)
To wire the pickup as a standard humbucker in series:
• Solder the White and Red wires together and insulate the connection with heat shrink or electrical tape.
• Connect the Thick Black + Yellow wires to ground.
• Connect the Thin Black wire to the Hot Output.
This gives you full humbucker output with maximum power and hum cancellation.
Coil Split - North Coil
To use only the North coil as a single coil:
• Connect the White and Red wires as normal.
• Connect the White/Red junction to Ground when the coil split is activated.
This bypasses the South coil, leaving only the North coil active.
Coil Split - South Coil
To use only the South coil as a single coil:
• Connect the White + Red + Thin Black wires.
• Connect the White/Red/Thin Black junction to the Hot Output when the coil split is activated.
This bypasses the North coil, leaving only the South coil active.
Hum-Cancelling Coil Splits
When both the neck and bridge pickups are coil split, you can still achieve hum cancellation in the middle switch position by using opposite coils from each pickup.
For example, wire one pickup to use its North coil when split and the other to use its South coil. Because the neck and bridge pickups have opposite magnetic polarity, this combination provides the classic hum-cancelling middle position while retaining the clarity and character of single-coil tones.
For the Bridge Pickup:
• Top Coil Polarity: South
• Bottom Coil Polarity: North
• Ground Wire: Thicker Black wire
• South Start: Yellow wire (Inside Screw wire)
• South Finish: Red wire (Outside Screw wire)
• North Finish: White wire (Outside Slug wire)
• North Start: Thinner Black wire (Inside Slug wire)
For the Neck Pickup:
• Top Coil Polarity: North
• Bottom Coil Polarity: South
• Ground Wire: Thicker Black wire
• North Start: Thinner Black wire (Inside Slug wire)
• North Finish: White wire (Outside Slug wire)
• South Finish: Red wire (Outside Screw wire)
• South Start: Yellow wire (Inside Screw wire) — Hot Output Wire
Wax-Potted Alnico V Construction
Every BullBucker pickup is fully wax-potted to eliminate unwanted microphonic noise, squeal, and structural resonance at high volume levels. This thorough potting process ensures quiet, reliable operation whether playing on loud stages or under high-gain studio setups.
The high-grade Alnico V bar magnets ensure excellent magnetic strength, fast transient attack, and natural compression. Housed in durable, mirror-finish chrome covers, the pickups look as refined as they sound while shielding internal components from interference.

BullBucker Pickup Set
This is my 2nd set of Artist BullBuckers. The first was uncovered which I put into a LP build, and this set was covered which I have put int a SG build. Wow, what a difference these pickups make. I find plenty of smoothness for Jazz and standard playing, but when I want to rip into some heavy rock these shine. I have had guitars with well known pickup brands but in my opinion these BullBuckers hold their own for a fraction of the price. I would very highly recommend them to anyone doing a build or an upgrade. Thanks again Artist Guitars for great gear.

Awesome Pups
I put a covered set into my Artist Guitars strat build rather than the three single coils that came in the kit. Wow, what a beautiful sound and lots of variation. Will definitely install in my current build, the ultimate practice guitar for me

Not Ceramic!
I viewed with interest a previous post about the bridge pickup on a Thin line which was microphonic. The poster postulated on whether the magnets used were ceramic rather than the alnico claimed by Artist. I can confirm that they are indeed alnico. As for the microphonics, I had the same issue with the bridge pickup that came out of my TC59. This was fixed simply by following a tip on YouTuber Dylan's site. Remove the cover, and top up the wax. There was a definite void prior to my doing this, fixed now, no more squealing. The pickups are definitely worth the money, and, relatively speaking, the money's not a lot.

Amazing sound at a great price.
I purchased a pair of bullbuckers to put in a budget epiphone les paul I purchased several years ago, and I wish I had done it sooner. The punch they deliver is incredible, and the sound is really clear too. I opted to install push pull pots so I can use them split, and the quality in single coil mode sounds better than both SD and Gibson pickups that I have in other guitars; They still retain a good level of output and maintain their clarity. To top it off, they are only a fraction of the price of big name pickups. If your looking to upgrade, give these a go, you won't be disappointed.

Just what i was looking for.
Great sound I put these in a Jackson JS32T Rhoads & wow what an improvement on the sound & looks. Very similar to a Duncan JB set in my opinion & yes I have a few guitars with JB's. Thanks Artist.

Great pickups, great price.
I bought a set of Burstbuckers with chrome covers for an Old Epiphone SG. Original pickups lacked clarity when clean and just got worse with more gain. I wired the Burstbuckers, 50s wiring Orange Drop capacitors and push-pull pots. What an upgrade.. Great sounds and tones, neck, bridge, both and coil split. Best $75 I've ever spent.

Great pickups
These are really decent pickups. And not “good for the money” either, they’re just “good” pickups. Balanced output, not too dark, not too bright. I put them into poplar tele body and they’re awesome. The wires had ample length for my needs. They work well for anything really, punk, rock, blues, shoegaze, pop… very versatile. I’d definitely be happy with these in just about any HH guitar

mixed results
My bull buckers arrived on my Artist Tele Thinline with coil splitting switching. The neck performed well, live and recorded through Logic Pro amp simulators. The bridge, however, struggled a bit live and in the studio. To solve the coil split volume/gain/output differential problems, the Bullbucker designers pushed up the output to 15+k. The result is that it works well split without volume loss - but unspilt, the output goes microphonic and it's difficult to get a cleaned up signal when recording. To get the 15k output, perhaps ceramic magnets instead of Alnico were used? Any rate, still a good deal - the neck pickup rocks with the best of them, but to my ears the bridge pickup is just simply overpowered and unmusical.

Outstanding pickups
I installed these in my Ibanez PS60 (Paul Stanley signature iceman style guitar) and they're absolutely brilliant. Such an upgrade over the stock pickups. The Bullbuckers have great clarity and tone, and the bridge was a bit hotter than the stock pickup. More crunch with better clarity. Totally transformed the sound of the guitar, and the chrome covers sit perfectly with all the chrome trim on the PS60. No hesitation in recommending these as an upgrade. (they also sound great in my stock Artist TC59)

Bullbucker neck and bridge set
These look and sound great in my epiphone SG. Took a bit of work to put them in. I had to open up the bridge pickup aperture so the new one would fit in (the original pick-ups did not have chrome covers). After a bit of work they fit in nicely. Looks like something Angus would jump on stage with now! Just wish I could play it like Angus does.

Outstanding sound and value!
I purchased a Bullbucker set to put in a project guitar I've been working on. I had read a lot of good things and I figured that even if they didn't live up to the hype the low price would still make them work a try. I gotta say, these things slay! The whole guitar has come alive and has gone from dull to having an amazingly full sound. The bridge has a lot of low end thats tight but still has room to breath. The mids are rich and have a really nice crunch to them ( very similar to a JB but slightly less compressed) . The top end is also really pleasing, bright without being pointy. But I have to say the real suprise to me was just how good the neck is. Full bodied, warm and increadibaly fluid. Think Liquifyer but without the woolyness in the 250Hz range. The two pickups compliment each other nicely and work really well backed off aswell. Overall I am really impressed, sepceialy when you factor in the price.
Store OwnerWe really appreciate the detailed review you have left for the pickups. We are glad to know that you are happy with them. Please feel free to reach out to us should you have any questions or concerns.20 May 2021 -

BullBucker Humbucker Pickup Set
I bought these for my budget Les Paul Kit expecting them to be a little bit better than the kits humbuckers. Wow what a difference the Bullbuckers made. Now my budget LP kit guitar sounds just as good as a genuine Les Paul. Sorry Gibson but it's true. The only flaw is that the length of wires on the neck pickup could be a little longer. Great work Artist Guitars. I am one very happy customer.

I've Found My New Favourite Budget Pickup Set
Don't let the price fool you. These pickups are fantastic bang for the buck. Once I heard them in a LP59 that I got from Artist, I compared them to a genuine Gibson pickup I had and it was nearly spot on! I immediately ordered another set for another guitar requiring a pickup change. While I've never tried a Seymour Duncan JB or jazz pickup, to me they sound every bit as good as a SD '59. If you like vintage Gibson PAF style pickups, you really can't go wrong with these guys. Nice sparkling top end, not too much bass and great for chugging away without it getting flubby (that's my test for a good pickup). I've tried many pickups and the closest I came to a vintage PAF style pickup on a budget was GFS Alnico II. With the Aussie dollar being so low from the US, it just doesn't make sense importing anything from the US at present. Bullbuckers definitely scratch that itch and keep us all happy (although you can get cream as well for that) ;) My only problem is, if all my guitars have these wonderful pickups in them, they will all sound the same!

Excellent
I bought these to put in a J&D Luthiers SG which had good pickups but the neck was a bit muddy and the bridge would squeal at high gain. Boy did these solve the problem! They sound fantastic and there is no squeal even at high gain high volume. The neck is more even with a nice amount of top end and a fat bottom. The bridge 100% delivers on the promise... Hot, articulate mids and a nice chunk. For the price, these are an absolute no-brainer.

Bullbuckers... still a great choice, at any price!
Another year, another update... this is a copy of my review on the uncovered set from 2018, but I now have 2 sets each of covered/uncovered in various guitars owned by family members. They still rock... and are so consistently good I can't buy any more... other pickups I buy now are purposely 'different' and I definitely haven't found anything that does the 'overwound, focused PAF' thing any better, by any make – at any price. I've been using these close on a year now and was probably partly responsible for exhausting the stock once I tried my first set :-) I bought them first to replace the 'OK' stock pickups in a Artist Super-Strat style guitar with mahogany body and neck... think PRS. Adding the Bullbuckers reminded me immediately of an SG with 'Classic' (60's) humbuckers but with a little more 'poke' in the bridge, like a stock but conicidentally overwound and well voiced one. Because they are (I think) Fender spaced poles, I also installed one on a Custom Squier Tele (bridge) and a pair on another Artist Super-Strat style guitar. Very happy all round. Some time later, I had a chance to play a mate's Epiphone LP Custom with some real Seymour Duncan Pickups on board... a JB Bridge and a Jazz Neck (classic Epi Upgrade). The similarities are uncanny! More recently, my wife and I have each bought new Gibsons; she a HP SG, me an ES LP Special (semi-hollowbody). The HP SG has 'modern' (490) pickups which a just a bit 'naughtier' than the Bullbuckers while maintaing clarity but the Bullbucker tone is in the ballpark. The ES LP (a cross between a 335 and a LP) uses a '57 Classic neck and an Super '57 (overwound) bridge and the Bullbuckers are MUCH naughtier; so they're definitely on the hotter side. So, if you want a 'rockier/naughtier' than vintage LP or SG sound for your Epiphone or other Gibson 'tribute' than these will definitely suit. They also sound great in Fender style guitars and would be a great swapout for standard Squire humbuckers IF you want a Gibson style sound. Ditto any PRS style guitar. They would also be great for "rocking up' a Dot 335/Ibanez Artcore or similar and have to be an absolute no brainer if you own and love an Artist Cherry 7 Anniversry – I bet they also sound great split too! In summary they're great if you want that classic-to-slightly-hot-rodded Gibson or McCarty PRS sound; at his price they're a total no-brainer. PS: My 12 month evaluation, over 3 different guitars I use live/jamming (leaving the 'real' Gibsons, etc at home) is based on use with some modelling software but mostly with a Mesa Boogie Roadster (100W Dual Rectifier 2 x 12), Marshall JVM410C (100W 2 x 12) and more recently a Positive Grid Bias (Rack) Head (600W with Marshall 1936 2 x 12). So, it's not like I can't 'hear' what they really sound like... and they do sound like ROCK!

Artist BullBucker Guitar Humbucker Pickup Set - Ch
Bought these a while ago but only installed them in my first gen LP60 a week ago, up untill then I have been playing with the Wilkinsons that came with it. Ohm Mia Gawd, WHY didnt I put them in sooner? Instantly I noticed a brighter more defined sound, the highs are clearer, the lows are tighter and more pronounced, the mids punch through like a Roo through ya radiator,. !!!! I used to play a late eighties Les Paul w/ Seymore Duncans JB/Jazz and tonally to my old ears at least they sound almost Identical, IMHO better than I had. I would and have been recomending this set to any and all people I come across who use LP style guitars, and of my friends who have tried them, they have all been happy too!!! Great work Artist Guitars, keep 'em commin!!! Glenn

Very happy. Great tone.
I just replaced the Wilkinson humbuckers in my LP60 with a set of these. The difference was immediately noticeable and much improved. The Wilkinsons were quite good but even after changing strings and adjusting pickup height I just couldn't get the sound I wanted from the neck pickup. Played through my Artist guitar supplied Joyo 5 watt valve amp the guitar now sounds great. Very good Artist! Great products and great customer service. Steve.

Great tones
I got a set of these last week and fitted them into my DC60CSB. I was impressed immediately by their output. I wanted to see how they performed as both a single coil as well as a humbucker. So I coil tapped them both using the 4-conductor wiring used on them. Again, The tones are really smooth. These bullbuckers are really worth getting if you're looking for something that's very usable. The price of them is more than worth it given the more expensive pickups, that to be honest, don't have any real audible difference. I think the measured resistance is a good balance and gives great variants of tones in all single/humbucker/alt, bridge/neck/both positions. My opinion, is that these are very stage and record worthy. Great job Artist.
