If you’re shopping for a microphone stand and notice that a mic clip isn’t included, you may wonder why. After all, a microphone stand and microphone clip seem like they should naturally come together.
The simple reason is that microphone clips are not universal. Different microphones come in different shapes and sizes, so a clip that fits one microphone may not fit another.
Microphones vary significantly in diameter and design. A clip needs to hold the microphone securely without being too tight or too loose.
For example, a clip designed for a smaller microphone may not accommodate a larger microphone body. Likewise, a clip that is too large may not provide a secure grip.
Because there is no single standard microphone clip size that fits every microphone, including one with every standalone mic stand isn’t always practical.
The correct mic clip or microphone mount depends on the microphone you’re using. Some microphones use a standard clip, while others require a specific mounting solution or shock mount.
For this reason, we recommend checking your microphone’s specifications before purchasing a clip. This helps ensure you get a secure and compatible fit.
When a microphone stand is sold on its own, it allows you to choose the accessory that is actually compatible with your microphone.
Rather than including a generic clip that may not fit, a single mic stand gives you the flexibility to select the correct microphone clip separately.
This is particularly important if you already own a microphone, as you can choose a clip specifically suited to its size and mounting requirements.
If your microphone stand doesn’t include a clip, don’t worry — this is normal for many standalone microphone stands.
Simply choose a microphone clip that matches your microphone and check that it is compatible with the stand’s mounting thread.
In summary, mic stands don’t come with universal clips because there is no universal microphone size. Choosing the correct clip separately ensures your microphone is held securely and gives you the best possible setup for recording, streaming, rehearsing or performing.
