NUX NGS6 Amp Academy Stomp-Box Amp Modeler Pedal

The Amp-less approach is quickly becoming a trend for modern musicians. For guitarists who appreciate a variety of pedals and amps, but don’t have the luxury of a roadie crew to lug all of them around, look no further than the Amp Academy!. The NUX NGS6 Amp Academy delivers the sound and feel of 6 world-class tube amplifiers in a super-portable stomp-box enclosure.

Add Amp Academy to any pedal chain and connect to a mixer or PA system for excellent tone, control, and flexibility during live performance. Monitor through the in-house monitoring system or in-ear monitors. For a dedicated personal on-stage monitor, connect your pedalboard to a powered FRFR speaker. Because the purpose of Amp Academy is to deliver amp and cab tones, it is not recommended to enable Amp Academy “in-front” of a guitar amp. If you want to bypass the IR function to us with your amp, simply toggle IR OUT switch to DOWN position to bypass the IR signal when using your board with a guitar amp

Amp Academy features 6 legendary amp models -  Vintage, Classic, Modern, Brown, Red, and Iridium. The iconic TSAC-2K (WHITE-BOX algorithm) Amp Modeling offers you a realistic amp feeling and fast playability response.

Featuring 1.2ms ultra-low system latency with 110dB ultra-wide dynamic range, this offers you realistic amp-like playability on a pedal-friendly platform.

Other features include 7 Independent movable signal blocks with Send/Return effect loop, Intuitive operation and editor software, 1024 samples IR resolution and 3rd party IR loader slot with auto format editor, Versatile application scenes with independent 1/4” & XLR IR outs, send/return effect loop, USB recording interface, firmware update, Amp Academy™️ editor software and an Ultra-wide dynamic range of 110dB.

nux amp academy NGS6 stomp box

i purchased the nux amp academy pedal 3 weeks ago, played my third gig with this pedal , i plug directly into the pa, the di on this pedal is amazing, the sounds are incredible, i own a jcm900 with quad box, a vox ac 15 and a fender twin also a line 6 hd 500, the sounds on the amp academy pedal leave all of these for dead, and im talking about playing live at high volumes, by far the most incredible pedal i have ever purchased in my 35 year playing career. o

I got this to save buying another amp , I use it into the power amp input of my bass amp to mess around with a guitar .. The concept is good, but needs more work on the modelling and an output volume control. I've had a number of valve amps over the years, Fender, Vox, Laney, Marshall and this doesn't sound like any of them. It had a brittle top end with my P90 guitar, I loaded some bass 8x10 and 2x15 cabinet IRs and cut the highs with the IR high cut, this helped. Amp and scene switching works well within a song or set list. (Much better than patch switching on many multi effects) BUT there is a volume spike when switching between scenes. Can get some useful sounds, good chunky clean rhythm tones. Single notes sound a bit thin and need boost/OD. Fun to mess around with high gain amps. Responds well to guitar volume, clean at low volumes and gets dirtier as input volume increases. Pros: Well built. All in one amp sim, boost/OD, reverb and IR loader. Saves space on your pedal board. Footswitch for changing amps and switching scenes works well. Responds well to guitar volume control. Cons Doesn't really sound like valve amps, brittle high end. Noisy. Volume spike when switching between scenes. Weird glitchy artifacts when O/D is used with high gain amps. DI output is too hot. Needs an output volume control, the gain and master volume interact and the tone changes as the master volume increases.

The Amp Academy is a great addition to your rig!

This pedal is a Swiss army knife of tones at the ready for whatever application you can throw at it. I'm a long-time amp / pedalboard user and wanted something easy to use to go direct to my PC, this definitely fits the bill. Way easy to use, I hardly needed to refer to the manual. Loading in extra IR's is simple, and setting up scenes enables you to have different amp settings / effects (and fx loop) switched in and out. Limited range of amp options but it will cover the ground you need from clean to crunch / drive. It doesn't stop there, I spent a bundle of time using the amp academy in different configurations from direct to board, into a separate power amp and cab, into the fx loop return an amp or running in 4CM with my pedal board. Each time I could find something very usable pretty quickly. Definitely recommended!

This is the tone you're looking for

By: on 12 October 2022
After using the last Nux IR modeller thingamahbob (aka Solid Studio, which I found to be rather underwhelming), I was dubious about this one but it seemed to be an improvement. It took a few days of experimenting and watching YouTube and all that jazz and still couldn't quite get it to do what I wanted. It was all just too hard haha. In the end, I just kept it simple (which is what I was looking for) and switched OFF the IR switch and whacked the unit at the end of my pedal chain and now it works like a treat! Definitely brings the tone to life. Good work, NUX.

Excellent amp pedal

This is a true box of tricks for a tiny sum of money. Theres too many features to list. It's a small amp emulator pedal that can be run stand alone or at the end of a pedal board. By itself, it has a good set of amp tones that can be dialed in with just the controls. Good touch dynamics and response. Especially good for home practice as it has audio in, headphone out, looper and drum tracks. Recommended.

The Amp Academy is even better than they say!

This is not an effects pedal. It is an incredibly flexible tool for (i) Practice (ii) Recording (iii) Save your arse if your amp stops working at a gig. I’ve had it for 24 hours and have only used it for exploring the software and practice. Using the free software is an essential part of Amp Academy. The default settings are OK, but too high gain for my personal taste. The beauty comes with the amazing options of amp models and the included IRs. It enables me to match amps with speakers that don’t exist in the real world but get me exactly the sound I want. Then you can add just a touch of reverb to give your sound some air. I like the Plate reverb best. I set my clean sound, the Fender Super Reverb, on Scene 1, then use the exact same settings but with one of the drive pedals (I like the Morning Glory Drive to add a tiny bit of grit). I save this for Scene 2 of my amp/IR setting. I’d be happy with just this, but there are another 5 possible Amp possibilities and 12 IRs giving you 60 combinations!! And then you can add your own IRs.
