First dive into IR modelling

By: on 21 December 2023
I bought this after seeing some pretty positive reviews and not wanting to spend mega $$ on AxeFX or Helix etc, I'm very much an amp and mic guy but the price was worth it to find out if I could use this in my studio, I've only spent about 12 hours playing through it and shaping some tones and yeah, wow this bad boy is really pretty good. The 5150 esq tone I was able to get was very passable and I've played live with a bass amp model into a real amp and it sounded awesome, I was able to get a modern metal sound with the clank and the growl with the feel of moving air from the rig. A lot of purists may stick to their AxeFX etc and that's completely understandable, especially for high end recording etc but for the average guitarist/bassist/home studio I think its a great addition, and the price! The output options are great, it allows so many various applications for studio and live work, this unit will be in my studio and in my live rig until NU>X release a new model and I'll likely checkout their next product in this range.

Nux MG-30 multifx... very good

By: on 6 November 2023
Having recently got back into recording, nothing serious, just for my fun… it became obvious that my trusty ancient Zoom G2 guitar processor (which has served me well) was not cutting the mustard. My music room has plenty of guitar/amp/effects options covering the classics, but I wanted to be able to sit on the couch and record silently after dark. Much research pointed to the Nux MG30 as the best bang for your buck, and Artist Guitars as usual was price competitive and delivered it within moments. It’s almost like they knew what I was thinking. Anyway, I’ve only had it three weeks, and the new Nux MG30 guitar processor is certainly living up to the hype. I’m old, so my points of reference are the classics… the twin, ac15 & 30, jc120, bassman, plexi and the 800… and to my old buggered ears, it gets real close… much better than my old G2. I’ve zero experience with the hi gain modern amps or the boutique stuff, so no comment there from me. The factory presets sound surprisingly good, probably because most of them don’t come from the factory but from various internet youtube guitar sensations, please press like and subscribe, so even out of the box, it’s got plenty of usable tones happening. But, I’ve been a-tweaking, and dialed in my own versions of the classics and it’s all good. The Scenes feature is great and would certainly help it as far as gigging goes, though keep in mind, it really only allows you to add or subtract things to the chain, not tweak individual settings from Scene to Scene, but with the ability to stack effects like overdrives/distortions, you can effectively set clean, drive & saturated for any given amp, so that is awesome. The looper is good, but is only a one button looper, so that has its quirks, but two buttons would have been much sweeter, oh well. Also, only 60 seconds of loop in mono, so more than enough for most things, but sometimes I’d like more. I’ve been spoiled with my amp pedal board looper, which has two buttons and tons of recording time, but one really great thing the MG30 has over it, is that because I can play it through my PA, and the amps sound great… I can lay down a riff, then some rhythm, some lead, some bass (which I can’t do through my guitar amp/looper) and then jam to it on my drums and sing too. I can truly be the band. A crap band, nevertheless, but… ha ha. And funnily enough Artist Guitars gear is involved in every step of that process… my main electric guitar now is an Artist LP59TRB Les Paul and it is awesome, the bass I’m using is an Artist MiniP and I have Artist Rough Light hi-hat & crash ride cymbals on my kit… and now the NuX MG30. I sort of wish the MG30 could run on batteries but having two onboard processors and drawing half an amp, I can see why batteries are not an option. Also, it would have been nice to have Bluetooth connectivity, as my powered mixer has it and it would have been sweet to not run cables, oh well. The QuickTone editor is great, and once you’ve done the heavy lifting in there, to set up your patches, the screen on the actual unit very easy to navigate. The expression pedal feels good, and I like that it has a switch, not that I’m a wah guy, but the option being available is great. Regardless, the Nux MG30 is a quantum leap over and above my ancient trusty Zoom G2… hopefully the Nux lasts as long, because the tones and features are vastly superior.

Very usable with so many features

By: on 7 April 2023
This is my third attempt at an amp modelling/effects unit. This one I'll keep. Others I couldn't get to sound any good through a boss katana, this one has options in settings for various audio configurations ie front of amp, rear input, stack, Audio interface. It has more patches than you would ever use , is more usable on the unit itself than others I've used. So much to learn, YouTube has plenty of videos to help as the instructions are pretty basic. I just play at home and this is all I need. I'm selling off my pedal board effects now as I think this will do the job. Very happy.

Nux MG30

I recently purchased this pedal after watching various reviews on YouTube including Shane from Intheblues. I am a home player and wanted something I could experiment with and I didn't want to start purchasing multiple amps and pedals. As a beginner player this really ticks all the boxes. I can learn about various amps and pedals which are included in the presets and get a feel for different amps and pedals sound like without the large investments in these products.

NU-X MG-30: Great value for money !

By: on 8 February 2022
The MG-30 from Nu-X is a powerful little unit, packed with amp models, effects, looper, drums, tuner and so on. It is probably more suited to the home guitarist rather than a heavy-gigging one. The layout is intuitive and the LCD colour screen is excellent (much clearer than many I’ve seen). I found the tuner to be spot-on. The USB makes it easy to connect to a computer and the access to the QuickTone software greatly simplifies the use of this machine (which is already pretty straightforward as is). I’ve mainly been playing through headphones and it sounds very clean (even to my 65-year-old ears !). On first plugging the MG-30 into my computer (Windows PC) the operating system failed to recognise the MG-30 so a firmware update is a highly recommended first step. That quickly sorted out the Windows issue. The manual that comes with the MG-30 is somewhat sparse and not particularly useful but there is more than enough information online, including great tutorials on YouTube (e.g. The Pedal Guy). Also, ‘manuals.plus’ gives a good walkthrough of the firmware update process. I haven’t tried interfacing with recording software yet but from what I’ve seen online I don’t expect that will be a problem. So, the bottom line is that for an exceptional bargain price of $439 you get an excellent modeller/effects/audio interface unit. Finally, interstate shipping from Artist Guitars using a courier service was extremely quick (shipped within a couple of days), certainly much quicker from shipping to delivery than I had anticipated, given the pandemic.

Well worth the money!

I was never sold on multi fx but these new generation modellers are really something else. While it won't be replacing my pedal board it does sound pretty good.. this mighty little unit has become my go to for practice and makes any kind of jamming with a computer or with headphones just that bit better. It records quite well and works as a usb interface which is great! Also being able to load IR's is another great plus.. Highly recommend this.

Excellent, all-in-one product

By: on 19 August 2021
This product lives up to its promise: a simple to use, well-designed unit that has a great selection of presets. The looper is intuitive, the tuner is particularly bright and clear on the color display and there's a drumkit function that promises to be a great practice tool. After a couple of weeks, I'm just scratching the surface of what it can do. As a hobbyist guitar player who just wants something to plug in play, this fits the bill - I'll work out what all the buttons do in time, but until then it sounds fantastic playing through my Artist TweedTone. Delivery and service excellent as always.

NUXMG30

With the pandemic woes & uncertainty around supply & delivery - Atrist Guitars did a great job in keeping the website up date with probable availability. The delivery was as expected - Aust Post works well these days. As for the MG30 - it really delivers. Highly recommended. Don't expect a comprehensive manual that shows you all the intricacies - you will be disappointed on that front. The clue is - there are a lot of YT vids that go through updating the firmware (a MUST) and how to use a lot of the features that have been included in the latest firmware etc. There are FB forums for tips & explanations/help from the online community - that is how we roll in 2021. The MG30 has a lot of bang for the bucks - even with the price hike due to worldwide semiconductor shortages. Definitely support Artist Guitars as an Oz business & forget trying to save a few bucks by importing one from overseas - that just doesn't make sense, as it's just not worth the hassle. Well done guys - you continue to get it right where this return customer is concerned.

Brilliant

The Nux mg30 is simply outstanding for the money i paid. The pre-sets straight out of the box are some of the sounds I've been trying to dial in for years but haven't been able to achieve. Throw in a 60 sec looper and the ability to download patches from professional musicians for free is fantastic. It also acts as an audio interface. The quality of the sounds coming from this unit is simply amazing.
