Artist TweedTone12A 12 Watt Class A Tube Amp Combo

The Artist TweedTone12A is a vintage-inspired, single-ended, true Class A tube amplifier. Designed with versatility in mind, this amp is an amazing all-rounder, ideal for home use, recording, and smaller stages, and is an amazing pedal platform.

Class A, “single-ended” amplification means the single output valve is conducting at all times, which makes for stunning breakup and the very natural, broad distortion that’s usually attributed to older, lower-wattage amps of decades past. This rich tube compression sounds beautiful when the amp is pushed harder, and the amp offers a range of tones from very simple controls.

The easy Volume and Presence control allows you to dial in your desired treble and upper mid frequencies, along with a touch of hair from the preamp. The TweedTone12A also has a Normal/Bright channel switch, which boosts your upper frequencies and helps to brighten darker humbuckers to cut through any mix. We have also included an “NFD” switch, which can be engaged to change the harmonic focus of the amp, and provides bell-like, chimey tube breakup at lower volume levels by actually limiting negative feedback rather than adding gain. This makes the amplifier very responsive to your pick attack and guitar volume control, and allows you to go from a vibrant clean tone to soaring leads by simply rolling up your guitar volume, without using fizzy gain controls or a hissy distortion channel. This is how the tube amps of the 50s and 60s were used, and the TweedTone12A encapsulates this “play-by-feel” approach perfectly!

Don’t be fooled by the vintage looks and simple controls however, the TweedTone12A also features a premium 12” Celestion 70/80 speaker, which is a great all-rounder. This larger speaker and our redesigned feedback defeat, larger transformer, and increased headroom over the 5 Watt TweedToneV make this an awesome pedal platform at any volume also!

This is the ideal amp for smaller venues and recording, but easily achieves awesome tones with surprising versatility at home-use volume levels also. For larger performances or use with a louder band, we recommend our 20 Watt TweedTone20R instead.

A very pleasant surprise

The only thing cheap about this amp is its price. I’ve had the amp for a few weeks now so the speaker cone has loosened up nicely. It really is an excellent amp (as is evident by all the positive reviews). It has a beautiful rich tone and I like its simplicity. There are enough tonal options on board to accommodate most requirements and it has plenty of headroom for someone like me who plays at home. I have the volume set at about ten o’clock which seems to be the sweet spot for my environment. It accepts pedals with relish but really, just add a touch of reverb and you’re off to sonic heaven. I have two other ( more expensive) tube amps but the Tweedtone 12A has quickly become the one to play through. Thanks for a great product.

Great value valve amp

I chose the Tweedtone 12A after a fair bit of research because it fit the bill for my requirements. Class A valve, small and mobile, vintage style, Australian design, fantastic price with free shipping and for 12 watts it’s bloody loud. This thing has great tone, at low or high levels. It would easily keep up with a drummer live in a smaller venue. I’m going off playing my 50’s rerelease Tele and a Fender Jazzmaster through it. Great value for a valve amp at $460.

Power Overwhelming!

Wow. You shouldn't be able to get this quality and tone at this price, but Artist have got a winner here. A beautiful amp with a great sweet spot...grab one and you will not be disappointed. Now I need to work out what to do in terms of a cover...anyone got any ideas?

Once again, you won't believe the quality of this

I really don't know where to begin with this amp. Let's start with the sound; its immaculate! To get a true class A vintage tube amp tone at this price point is ridiculous. This amp particularly shines with the ability to use the NFD/Bright combination with a strat style guitar, as it really highlights the quack and chime of the instrument. The amp is also great for lower volume playing with the NFD channel. It's also worked really well with my Artist Walnut 58, a blues driver pedal and a bit of delay, so the amp is an incredible pedal platform too. On top of that, the whole thing is covered in high quality tweed. It looks fantastic. Lastly, this came to my home from interstate in 2 days. The support and communication from Artist was also top notch. Just buy the amp. It's a winner!

Artist Amplifier.

This Tweedtone Amplifier is solid and sounds strong. Amazing value for the price, however tone was my first priority on this purchase. The Celestion driver along with the electronic design makes this amplifier as good as any (if not better than) with a 12' driver. Lightweight powerful and compact. Fantastic. 5 stars.

Great sounding LOUD 12 watt amp

By: on 1 August 2023
This is a very good amp. Played a set with it a week ago, a small club, the amp had plenty of volume for that venue. I didn't go above 10 o'clock on the volume knob. Settings I used: Bright / Normal switch set to Bright, NFD/Normal switch set to Normal, Presence around 11 o'clock, volume 10 o'clock. It took pedals well. The only suggestion I would make is if you want to get fancy adjusting the tone (it doesn't have bass and treble controls) is to whack an EQ pedal in front of it - I haven't tried that though, haven't felt the need so far. A very good clean sound at the volumes I used it. Recommended!
