Artist Fly Natural Electric Guitar w/ Bullbuckers

We’ve heard your pleas! By far our most highly requested and hotly anticipated model, the Artist Fly is back! A classic model long since discontinued, we’re bringing it back with a slew of upgrades, making it better than ever! A classic design played by countless famous guitarists, most notably James Hetfield of Metallica, the Artist Fly is a full-tilt, high-octane beast built to chug, shred, and wail! This rock ‘n’ roll machine is equipped with a pair of our signature coil-splitting Artist Bullbuckers, allowing you to dial in just about any tone you can think of. Let’s be real though, there’s one reason you’re after this one, and it’s not to play soft pop…

Improving on this iconic design, we selected a set mahogany neck, a mahogany body, and a 12” radius Bolivian Rosewood fretboard for the new iteration of the Artist Fly; a great array of high-quality woods that combine stunning aesthetics with a world-class feel. Each point of string contact on an electric guitar has a profound effect on sustain and resonance, not to mention tuning stability. That’s why we’ve fitted this one with brass saddles, locking tuners, and a bone nut. Combined with the set mahogany neck, this gives the Fly infinite sustain, as well as making string changes a breeze.

If you’ve been hanging out for this one, then pick it up, plug it in, turn your amp up to 11 a la Nigel Tufnel, and let rip! Disclaimer: Artist Guitars is not responsible for ringing ears, noise complaints, or structural damage resulting from shaking walls!

What a Beast

By: on 19 August 2025
Recieved the guitar this week. Fit, finish and playability straight out of the box is impressive. Locking tuners are solid and feel just as good as the Hipshot tuners I have on other guitars, the fret work and rolled edgses are up there with guitats costing more than 3 times as much, and I can say, even better. Of course, all of this means little if the thing if it doesn't sound premium and it does. This guitar is up there with my USA made Tele and SG. I have no hestation it playing it on-stage, even if it doesnt say, Gibson or ESP on the headstock.

Suitably Impressed

I received my ‘Fly’ today and can say the whole process, from ordering to delivery was faultless. Now, to get on with the guitar. I was extremely impressed as I removed the guitar from the box. This was because the quality and finish was so obvious- here was a guitar that was worth far more than what I paid for it! This instrument screams quality and I was amazed at how it felt so natural when I began to play it. The fretboard is so smooth and, overall, I can’t fault the production. There are no rough edges, lacquer blemishes or anything that diminishes the build of this guitar; the locking tuners are especially well made. I can’t rate this guitar high enough and can only say, ‘Artist Guitars keep up the fine work!’

The (Human) Fly!

My Artist Fly 'au naturale' arrived today, tracking was accurate and box arrived safely at the office. Wow, the finish and presentation is excellent. No cracks, spots, blems or anything out of place. The body is clean and the fingerboard and strings are grime and dust free. The paint on the headstock is perfect and classy. Obviously the QA processes are working. Now I've only been playing it for 30 mins or so and I'm getting to know the Bullbuckers. I have not had many hum bucker equipped guitars and this is the first one that actually sounds good to my ears, as I usually find 'buckers a bit muddy but these have a range of tones, from sweet (neck pickup and middle position) to outright fire with the neck. Now I'm someone whose main guitar is a Japanese Gretsch with TV Jones Duo Tron pickups (you gotta try these b4 you die) which are my benchmark for hum buckers. And the BBs are very musical, and have their own 'voice' which is what you are looking for in a guitar. So given that those TVJs cost more to buy and import than this entire Fly guitar, I think AG has nailed it. I'm not a brand snob, but while the Fly will never be comparable to my Gretsch that isn't the point, it's a very good guitar in it's own right. Now to the business side: the neck is fat but also slinky, no nasty fat ends (pretty good considering it's traveled across several climate zones to get here). The nut is indeed 43mm as per the spec. Body is a solid 45mm thick and my somewhat dodgy k M a r t scale pus it at about 4.1 kg so moderately heavy but explorer type bodies just hang nicely on me. And very comfy to play sitting classical style. Looking at the top it seems like a one piece body but must be a veneer and you have to look hard to find a seem (on the sides) where sections of wood meet. Is that important? Not really and especially in this price point. It is an indication that it's been well made. Now i do prefer the blonde look of Explorers made from korina but I didn't have that kinda budget! My Fly looks very much like the one on the webpage and it's really growing on me. The fingerboard could use a little darkening but I'll try that next time I change strings, which will be a while as the strings are fine, needed a fair bit of tuning but that's to be expected. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to try it with the DRRI and see what that sounds like! Looking forward to it. And it will get a 'live' outing when my Cramps tribute band plays next and I can get my Kid Congo on!
