Artist AP58J TV Yellow Electric Guitar w/ Howler Pickups

If you're looking for a minimalist rock and roll dream machine, the Artist AP58J is the choice for you! With one pickup, two knobs, and a hardtail bridge, this isn't a guitar for the cork sniffers! With a solid African mahogany body finished in classic TV Yellow, the AP58J sports the same timeless design that has seen this style of guitar grace the stages of countless dive bars and house shows, as well as its fair share of all-time great punk records!

We've kitted this one out with a road-ready Wilkinson wrap-around bridge (with adjustable locking bridge posts and saddles), combining with a 43mm bone nut and durable chrome machine heads to keep you in tune through any punk cover set! With a single dog-ear Artist Howler P90 in the bridge position, the AP58J has got the bark and bite to cut through any mix, particularly when paired with your overdrive pedal of choice, while the set mahogany neck gives this one serious sustain, particularly useful if your playing tends more towards aggressive classic rock lead playing than punk rock rhythm guitar muscle.

With just a single volume and tone knob, the AP58J has a surprising amount of tonal range for those willing to experiment, but power chords, downstrokes, and whatever distortion pedal you spent your last buck on are the combo which brings the spirit of this punk powerhouse to life!

The Artist AP58J comes strung from the factory with D'Addario EXL110 strings.

Unbeatable guitar

By: on 12 October 2025
I had mine from the bargain bin , an ex-demo model with the AlNico pickup. I couldn't ask for more: the construction and finishing show a very high level of quality, the parts are excellent -the wraparound Wilkinson bridge with adjustable saddles is a great addition as allows much better intonation. The only work I had to was polishing frets and put new strings. The tone is so dynamic and beautiful, the interaction between the P90 pickup with the tone and volume knobs allows to find most of the tones I like from a guitar. The guitar is extraordinary and I am beyond impressed. Excellent work Artist team, keep doing what you are doing!!!

Back to 1976

By: on 9 October 2025
It's 1976, and the Punk craze has just hit, and I'm 11. What did I know about music or guitars? Nothing, but I started following the UK music scene via music magazines and it was full on from then. By the time I was 15 I was playing in three bands and I convinced my parents to buy me a Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Les Paul Junior; how I pulled that off I'll never know, but it launched me into a serious world of music, Punk and Rock and bands for the next 5 years until the Gibson was stolen from the back of my car. No insurance, no guitar, no band, no more fun. For a long time I just listened to music but never really played in bands anymore. I'm 60 now, and I recently bought the Artist AP58J TV Yellow. What can I say about this fabulous guitar? The first time I saw it online, I thought I was dreaming as the cost was nothing. For a while I procrastinated but then relented to the lust of this guitar style and look. When it finally arrived (quicker than I though) and I unpacked it, I had to pause for thought, staring at it for ages, until my wife walked in bemused and concerned that I was going nuts... I then plugged it into my 1957 Fender 5E4 Super amp and played an A5 power chord. What happened next was near to spiritual. I was taken back to age 15 playing in my first Punk band and playing my Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Les Paul Junior. That's all I need to say. Why waste time talking about the pickups, head stock, tuning pegs, body, centre of gravity, blah, blah, blah!!! The test is in the eating, and in this case, the playing which definitely proves that this is a guitar that will take you 'back to the future'. Thanks Artist for taking me back to my Punk days.

Surprisingly high quality guitar.

I will admit to being skeptical about getting a good guitar for this price. I was blown away by how good it actually is. This guitar had all the specs I wanted, and I could return it if I wasn't happy with it. I definitely won't be returning it. The first thing I checked was the fret ends, close enough to perfect, and nicely polished. The nut is cut perfectly, tuners are silky smooth. The neck carve couldn't be better, and I love the wrap around bridge. I wasn't sure if I'd like the eco rosewood fret board, but I do. This guitar plays like butter, and feels a lot better than more expensive guitars I've owned. To say I'm impressed would be an understatement. Even the colour looks better in the flesh. Also, I did not adjust anything, straight out of the box it was all good. The only way this guitar could have been better is if it was strung with Slinkys haha. I can't praise Artist Guitars enough. Top job guys.

I'm normally happy just being one of the many folks out there in YouTube chats and comments sections spreading the good word of Artist Guitars. Although admittedly I'm partially just a thrifty tinkerer, I'm nearly into double figures now on guitar purchases. THIS (particular example of) GUITAR IS TRULY STUNNING in it's objective quality, let alone the amazing value. *Literally all of my purchases have come via the Bargain Bin, and even on a rare example of a batch of 335/335 style guitars with intonation issues, they were always honest with writing this down in the description of the item, and they themselves started to offer reduced price examples with replaced bridges, really classy
