Can't put it down!

By: on 8 October 2025
I've been on the hunt for a new bass for over a year and hadn't found anything decent that I could afford since selling my Duff McKagen jazz bass (amazing instrument) during the covid lockdown I saw this bass in passing for a number of days, it intrigued me enough to go into the pawnshop and have a play. The beautiful sparkly finish immediately drew me in and I thought to myself 'This things brand new, still got the plastic on the pickguard and not one scratch, gotta be a piece of junk if it's not been played and pawned.? ' Man was I wrong! I picked it up expecting the action to be 2 inches off the fretboard but no, action was super low, no buzzing and it played like butter. The price was $139 AUD and I asked the pawnbroker if he would take $130 which he agreed to. I didn't even test it to see if the electronics worked, I thought it played and looked so nice that if there was anything wrong with it I'd just fix it. I got it home and plugged in and wow is all I could say! It's got so many voices with the active/passive pick ups and the J&P Bass configuration, I haven't been able to put it down! I would definitely buy new and pay full price if I had to buy got a complete bargain and couldn't be happier!

Unbelieveable blue PJ bass from the bargain bin

By: on 7 May 2025
I'm a guitarist trying to pick up bass (please don't judge me :)) and I found a 'damaged' customer returned version of this bass in the bargain bin for $224, which is a steal. No issues with the delivery. The body, neck all in perfect condition. The reported issue was the output jack, however this took a minute of soldering to fix. The included battery was totally flat, not too surprised given that it was a returned item. The instrument otherwise came well set up, good action and all intonated. Plays well. I appreciate the detent in the blend pot. The onboard preamp works fine in active mode, and of course the bass works in passive mode also. My intention was to convert this to a headless and change out the pickups, however it's certainly not bad the way it is.

AMAZING BASS

Beautiful sparkle finish. Extremely versatile pickup combination especially with the option to switch between passive and active configurations. Only qualm is that the active pickups have a slight hum to them which is to be expected with any active pickup really especially at this price point. Absolutely amazing bass worth every cent.

Visually and audibly striking

I originally purchased this guitar to get back into playing bass, but I'll definitely be keeping it no matter what I grab next. Value for money has been insane, as it feels hundreds of dollars more expensive than it is. Very good that we live in an era where you can grab good quality gear at a cheap price, it really makes being a musician a more attainable goal for a lot of people. The tone you can pull out of this thing is amazing, so much variety. I've swapped the strings out for some lighter gauge ones and it can get some great bright jazzy tones, but also be used for that lower-key rock sound with the right use of the knobs. The active/passive switch is great too, allowing even more range. It's almost like having two bass guitars in one. The finish on this is a limited run, and has an almost glam-rock look to it. It's definitely been a conversation starter and I've had a few people point out the finish makes the guitar look a lot more expensive than they'd expect it to be. So if you like showing off, this one is a good option. All up, very happy with the purchase. Will be coming back for a 6 string guitar in the future.
