GOOD STRAT FOR MINIMAL COST

By: on 3 September 2024
Very attractive, well-made guitar. Compares favourably with my much more expensive Squier & Fender Strats. My 4th from Artist Guitars. Good playability. Comfortable neck & fretboard, smooth, no rough fret edges. Came well set up- only minor tweaks required (pickup heights). Very impressed with the Wrangler pickups - true Strat-like sound with a bit of growl. Gripes (minor) - tremolo arm swings too freely (improved with plumbers' tape) - slight harmonic overtone from bridge on 1st string. Thanks!!

I was really excited for this one when I ordered it for the high school music department I work in. I personally own a few Artist Guitars, but I hadn't experienced the wrangler single coil pickups. I was also particularly excited by the slight change in the standard strat control configuration - only one tone control that works on all pickups, and the jackplate mounted on the edge of the guitar. When I unboxed this one, I was very excited by the overall look/finish. So well done for such a low price! The roasted maple neck makes it look like a guitar worthy of a much higher price bracket, and the neck is very comfortable in the hand. I made a few action tweaks (tremolo, saddles), and it plays as well as a branded stratocaster I own (for something like a seventh of the price). The wrangler pickups provide the single coil strat chime and bite as you would expect, they do it quite well, and they play nice with pedals too. This guitar will be kept for the kids who are using the recording studio and performing at school events (and I might play it every now and again too haha). Artist Guitars, you've won this music teacher over BIG time!
