Artist AG78V2BK Black Headless Multiscale 8-string Electric Guitar

The AG78V2BK is our upgraded and modified headless fan fret electric guitar, in a gloss black finish. Building off the success of our AG78MS, we have applied various upgrades and modifications to the AG78V2 for improved performance and features. Using our customer feedback we have isolated areas of improvement and the AG78V2 is the result!

The guitar features a 24-fret multiscale Techwood Fretboard over a Maple Neck. The matte-finished neck ensures speed and comfort for those long reaches and fast runs. The body has a gloss black finish, and we have made ergonomic alterations to the shape to ensure this is comfortable both seated and standing. The “headstock” (or lack thereof) has also been altered in shape, and now features a classy cut-off.

We have made alterations to the hardware also, and now include a premium locking nut and an improved, top-tier bridge. The bridge and saddles have been upgraded to ensure there are no issues with tuning the guitar and to ensure tuning stability.

Steer Clear!

I back ordered this guitar last year and received it earlier this year 2023. The first one had a crack and the knobs were worn. I got the second one in black and it looks awesome and feels nice. The original pickups were very low output and barely registered anything. thats ok because i upgraded the pickups anyway to fishman actives. When it came to restringing it was the main issue, it was a nightmare, i felt a couple of the locking lugs at the nut end wear off as i tightened them, that means they arn't coming undone if i tried, the guitar also cannot be intonated, i pulled a couple of the saddles all the way back and still the note is off. The nut has a sharp edge underneath. This guitar is not useable. I would not recommend it at all. I bought a bass from Artist a couple of years ago and it was very good, that's why i tried this one out but it is no way the same quality.

Good but lacking

By: on 20 July 2023
I just received the guitar out of the box looks really good seems solid and well built but even with the Quality Control sticker on it, I can see a lot of different things needs fixing, the fret wires especially up top isn't flushed in, the bridge high e isn't aligned so the string is slightly bended and does pop off the saddle and causes it to make overtone sounds instead like a sitar, when I try plugging in on a very clean signal no mixture of anything this is the only guitar I had so much noise like slightly grounded compared to my other guitars which does not have any audible humming since its on a clean signal. The locking nut seems to be popping off a little not sure if its supposed to be flushed or there should be a gap, one more thing the 7th low saddle has a screw missing for locking the saddle adjustment on. I have emailed the sales to do something for my order, it's literally fresh out of the box I got home to open it up to inspect.

Looks awesome! Could use some tweaks still

Got mine from the bargain bin so it’s not perfect but that doesn’t bother me as the price was right. The hardware seems pretty good like tuning from the saddles seems pretty easy, some really cheap headless saddles can be a pain to turn and tune but these aren’t! Neck/fret wise I’m getting low action out of the box without much fuss frets seem pretty level but the ends are very sharp. I haven’t restrung this yet so I’ll have to see how the locking nut is. Feel and weight is great but the pickups aren’t very good at all and being fanned it’s harder and more expensive in most cases to buy replacement pickups that properly line up. I would make two major recommendations #1 28” scale is nice for 8 strings but I think it would be better not having fanned frets in terms of people buying this to modify swap pickups also I find the locking nut to be sharp as it touches my hand playing at the first few frets from the fan, I guess that’s why some headless fanned fret guitars have the nut on the angle but not the locking mechanisms recommendation #2 there needs to be a bevels at the nut area/headstock to accommodate for hanging the guitar as for me it’s an important feature having my guitar hung on the wall… Overall it’s a great mod platform for the price with some tweaks I think these could really dominate the more budget headless market

Very happy with this purchase

By: on 31 May 2023
I bought this guitar a few weeks ago and I have been extremely surprised by the quality for the price point. The finish is excellent, the body shape, the bridge - all great and no issues. I would highly recommend this guitar for anyone wanting to get into 8 string guitars. It plays way better than my entry level Ibanez 8 string. Thank you so much. Some feedback on the design and delivered product. I still have to finish intonating the guitar. I'm not sure if you guys can do this before it leaves the warehouse but it's always a pain. And my biggest concern was, being a low-cost guitar, if I was going to strip the grub screws while adjusting. So far so good, but let's see if I finish without incident. The only other thing worth mentioning is the nut. The bottom corners of the nut are really sharp. If you can round those corners out, it would make a much nicer feel. But to finish on, very happy with this purchase. Definitely surprised by the quality and would recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing.

Best!

I have a 27" 8-string Iron Label that I've been using quite a bit, a bit sceptical about trying fanned fret especially this extreme 26"-28", However, It actually didn't take long for me to adjust to this guitar since how comfortable it is especially for the price. I have never bought a guitar online before, since I like to inspect the instrument I'm going to buy personally, The Customer Service made my transaction really smooth, and the Shipping arrived earlier than expected despite me living in Victoria. I feel like companies that have great Customer Service like Artists should be more highlighted, there are companies out there that make far more expensive guitars, have really aggressive marketing, subpar QC, and don't have this level of Customer service. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Kiesel.

I had the original Headless 8, and oh boy it was a disaster. But this, NOW THIS IS A GUITAR. This version of the AG78 Headless is absolutely stupid good for it's price. Definitely doing a demo for this guitar on YouTube at some point soon. Cheers for such an amazing entry level headless 8. I will be buying the Headless 6 too whenever I can!
