Unbelievable Value

By: on 27 January 2024
I was lucky enough to pick up a mint-condition used AG100 while I was looking at used budget SGs. None of the other manufacturers in my price range ticked all the boxes that this one does - a set neck, dual volume and tone controls, mahogany body and neck, bound fretboard etc. It's a very nicely made guitar and I would have been more than happy if I'd paid full price. I'm only recently returning to guitar playing after many years, but my main guitar was a Gibson SG when I was younger and the AG100 does a good job of emulating those thick, growly tones when it's driven hard, while sounding pretty sweet played clean. The coil-splitting pickups are a big bonus, giving (I think) effectively eight different pick-up combinations, which coupled with the full set of volume and tone controls makes for a massive tonal palette. If, like me currently, you can only afford one guitar, this would be a great pick. Having said that, as soon as I can afford more than one I'm definitely coming back to Artist - I've already got my eye on the ST62, the AT91, the Grungemaster and, well, most of them to be honest!

Incredible Value For Money. Semi-professional inst

By: on 9 May 2023
After having waited a while to see how this guitar stands up in different environments, I'd say it sounds and plays nicely, better than guitars almost twice the price. Let's put everything under the microscope: Woods: Look amazing in the deep wine-red finish. Fingerboard: Not an fan of Eco-Rosewood, whatever that may be. A bit dry out of the box and in need of some lemon oil. Frets: upper fret ends a bit sharp and in need of a file/ sand. Tuning: average, needs a stronger neck (truss rod?), the locking tuners work well but can't be screwed in very tight. Pickups: Very good. Clear thick articulate and split very nicely. Hardware: Excellent. Very impressed You can't find a new guitar of this quality at this price, but it isn't a perfect.

Absolutely beautiful

By: on 19 October 2022
Not the bright red I thought it would be as illustrated. Instead it is a beautiful dark red that is unbelievably beautiful. When I stop looking at this guitar long enough I might actually play it. So after keeping it beside me on the lounge chair for a few days I finally decided to test drive it. Straight out of the box , (did I mention how beautiful this machine looks,) a slight tune up as It was almost in tune anyway and away we went. Can't complain or find any faults as it plays any way you want it to sound and it plays easily. I don't even have to adjust the action. This is my fourth guitar from Artist and once again it arrived very soon after ordering. I can't go into detail about coil splitting as Being an ignoramus I don't know what coil splitting really means but I bet this baby does it. You have to remember I'm a Bass player first and over the years have taught myself how to hack a tune or two out of a guitar. Having said that I can muck around and come up with pleasing sounds not to hard on the ears as my guitar playing son puts it. If you decide to purchase this guitar you will be in no way disappointed that you did. I actually let one of my friends who is a guitarist have a play on it and he couldn't believe how good this Measly $400 beast sounded as he is a purist who believes it has to be a Fender or Gibson to be any good. I think I may have converted him as he couldn't say enough good things about it and he too thought it was a gorgeous looking guitar. I now use Artist guitars for all my strings and pedals as my one stop shop. My next purchase will be the Tele copy. Just what I need, another guitar to polish and between the Basses and the Artist guitars, my rack run Neth over. So please stop sending me the ads as I am too weak to resist and a possible divorce could be pending. She said it's me or the guitars and hey I can cook and clean anyway without all the noise. But seriously thank you once again Artist for making me extremely happy and your service is second to none. Just read any Artist review and find me one negative aspect. Don't hesitate buy the AG 100 Deluxe Red and you will be the one drooling and rediscovering the meaning of love.

Much More Than Expected

By: on 28 July 2022
When looking for my first electric guitar, did all the shops, checked out all the specs etc, then i found the AG100. I had decided on an SG style after all my shopping around and comparing, but the specs on this, and at the super price point that Artist sell them for, it was a no brainer. The photos on the website did not do this guitar any justice. When i received it.... it was nothing short of stunning. The colour and finish was beautiful, and that was only trumped by the feel and the sound of this superb instrument. I've bought 3 guitars from Artist now, and have not been even slightly disappointed by a single one of them. Great work Artist guitars.... keep it up!

SG - Solid Gold

The Artist AG100 - excellent build quality again! as was the LP59GT90 that I also purchased, both guitars are superb to play, arrived in great condition. Only had to adjust action .. intonation was setup spot on! Love the coil splittable humbuckers on the AG100 and the P100/P90 push pulls on the LP59GT90 as well. Unbelievably fantastic value and quality for the price!

Lovin' the AG100 Deluxe!

By: on 19 October 2021
Well, I finally caved in and purchased this guitar, even though I already had seven AG guitars (not counting numerous accessories, pedals, mikes, etc.) I wanted to have an SG style guitar, but not at an SG price, and I thought that, based on all my other Artist Guitars being really good, I couldn't go wrong, and, I certainly didn't! What a great instrument it is! By the way, 48 hour delivery! How good is that? And to a rural area! And, it feels really great to play! As a matter of fact, I haven't played any other guitars, by any brand, since it arrived! Anyway :- the finish is perfect, the neck/fretboard is finished and you will never shave your fingers on these smoothly done frets/fret ends. Great colour, and the pick ups sound really great with the variety that you'd expect, with the added bonus of coil-splitting when called for. Locking tuners is standard on this gorgeous guitar. Certainly a great playing guitar, and the tones that I'm getting, even now, are just really professional sounding! All in all, I can genuinely recommend this to anyone who is thinking about this style of guitar, because, as the saying goes, this is very close to the real deal! And, Artist Guitars will stand by you, in the unlikely event that you may have a problem. I say that, because when I've had a couple of issues (which were never their fault, by the way!) they stayed with it until things were positively resolved, and you definitely don't get that in all shops! So, thanks for the excellent product and excellent service!

Truly excellent

By: on 4 October 2021
First up, this guitar looks absolutely beautiful (gorgeous deep red finish with the grain showing through slightly) and it arrived in immaculate condition. Its so nicely balanced and it came set up very well. Sounds great and delivers a quality that you just don't get at this price from other brands. I think that Artist's quality and range just keeps getting better, and this is their best electric guitar that I've played to date. Now I'm off to play some AC/DC on my beautiful new guitar - thanks Artist and keep up the great work!

Beautiful guitar

By: on 14 September 2021
Once again Artist have delivered a beautiful guitar. Can not fault the finish, it is blemish free, clean smooth frets and a deep shine on the body. The guitar set-up is fine for my playing style. Most importantly, it sounds great. Just proves you dont need to spend thousands to get a great playing, great looking guitar.

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of this guitar. I always wanted a SG guitar, but being a bass player, could not justify spending thousands of dollars on a real Gibson. This guitar has all the features that a Gibson should have. Excellent finish, coil splitting, locking tuners, and a roller bridge to limit string breakages. The bullbucker pick-ups are excellent. The guitar arrived with ultra low action, with intonation correctly adjusted. No need to adjust anything at all, just tune and play. Awesome guitar, highly recommended! Much better than expected.

What an Awesome guitar

By: on 16 April 2021
Wow I guess I was not prepared for how good this guitar really was . I mean I had read the reviews, they were good , but seeing it and hearing it was on a different level . Firstly build quality and finish was first class and the set up from the box was amazing , action and playability felt really good. I plugged it in and those bull bucker pick ups roared. I love the fact that at this price point you get pick up tapping , the push pull volume pots open up a full range of sound dynamics .,only tapped ( to coin a phase) by you imagination. The locking tuning keys and roller bridge , keep it in tune easily and are kind to your strings. Thanks Artist guitars again for bringing such a quality guitar at an unbelievable price , my friends could not believe the value , quality and sound of this AG100.well done.

Arrived yesterday & spent 1/2 of last night playing it and the other 1/2 just admiring it. It really is a beautiful work of art. Supper impressed. Only trouble is it doesn't sound the same with me playing it as when Angus Young from AC/DC plays his genuine Gibson AG, but at least looks as good !!

Perfect In Every Way.

By: on 10 April 2021
"Perfect in Every Way" is the heading, believe you me that's the truth for this superb guitar. Nothing can be faulted with the build and electronics of this instrument where all the required extras are added including, locking machine heads, roller bridge, switchable high quality pickups, jumbo frets and a very high quality paint finish. The neck plays exactly like my Gibson 1972 SG with all intonations perfectly balanced and the sustain is amazing. Delivery was next day from Sydney to Melbourne with Couriers Please. Thank you to the friendly staff from Artist Guitars for supplying me with this Perfect In Every Way instrument which is now added to my other two guitars from the same company.

AG100 follow up

By: on 23 March 2021
So after I left a glowing review of this guitar a fortnight ago, I went to set it up to my personal preferences. I found several high frets above the octave where I rarely play, and several notes up there buzzed. Opened a support ticket, and got a return authorisation within half an hour, so Artist truly stand behind their products. But packing and posting equals hassle so I decided to look into the problem further. By tapping down the high frets they are now all seated well and level, and it is playing nicely. This speaks well of the precision of manufacture (no fret levelling/filing was required) but the assembly of this particular neck seems to have been a bit off. (This isn't a job for the uninitiated btw, easy to damage the guitar if you don't know what you are doing.) I have to revise this particular guitar as supplied to 3 stars; but overall you can buy with confidence if you accept that a bit of hassle is not out of the question.

AG100

I had the loan of an Epiphone SG last year; I missed it after I gave it back so looked at the options and settled on this. Ordered one day, and arrived the next, great service. The finish is immaculate, cannot fault it and the setup is excellent, I may raise it a little after it's more 'played in' - personal preference only. Fret finish and consistency up the neck is great. The pickups have a great sound either humbucker or split. I generally like the single coil sound and the more radiused neck of F-style guitars. With the coils split you do get a hint of that clunky single coil attack, and a really nice tone, humbucker setting for more grunt and richness. I suspect they sound better than the Epi ones although I can't direct compare. My F-guitars are both 7.25" neck radius so 12" is quite a difference, but I found with the good setup I'm hardly noticing the flatter neck. I had to test out the claimed sustain benefit of the neck-through construction. So I played it into a recording program to compared it to a G&L strat and a kit Tele; it was the clear winner (and the Kitcaster sustained a tad better than the USA made G&L surprisingly). All this and it looks gorgeous; if you are attracted to this style of guitar you won't be disappointed.

Exceeds my expectations

By: on 15 January 2021
I just received my AG100 after almost five months of waiting and I have to say it is worth the wait. Although it is not exactly as described (even better) it came included with a roller bridge which suits me just fine as I will be installing a Bigsby B5 and Vibramate V5. It also came with coil splitting on the volume pots which I was not expecting. I was not sure whether it was coming in a translucsent or solid colour but to my delight it has a beautiful stained finish with amazing mahogany grain work on both the body and especially in the neck and the back of the headstock. Everything else is exactly as described. All the electronics work to perfection and the setup was close to perfection straight out of the box, the tuning was also spot on. This is the fifth guitar I have bought from Artist and they never cease to surprise me but this one is the best 'so far'. For you reference I tried it in a Les Paul case and it is a very snug fit and won't move around. Before ordering this guitar I tossed up between this and the current Epiphone 'Inspired by Gibson' SG Standard which was more than twice the price and seems to be much the same quality. Thanks guys.
