Joyo JF10 Guitar Effects Pedal - Dynamic Compressor

A re-creation of the classic ross compressor, the Joyo Dynamic Compressor will give you control over your sound. Producing very minimal noise itself,  this pedal will eliminate feedback and amp/distortion noise when using with high gain pedals or amps. Use the Sustain, Attack, and Level knobs to find your ideal tone. Tweek the Attack to boost your bottom end and level off high-output pickups.

True bypass design minimizes tone loss and the super tough aluminium alloy casing will last for years.

If you feel like the only person in the world who doesn't get Compression,  fear no more. You're not Robinson Crusoe. Read on to regain your self-esteem.

Put simply, Compression is a staple in the studio to decrease the dynamic range of the signal, ie. soft signals are increased in presence, and louder signals decreased. For such a simple idea, it's amazing to see the options and tastes therein. I always use Compression for recording and mixing, usually in post rather than the track, but I haven't used a guitar pedal before. So why now? I'm playing in a kids' band at the moment called Electric Lunchbox. We're like a Rockabilly band for kids, and we tend to favour those Rockabilly riffs and builds. But kids don't like it too loud, and it's been tough getting a good sound at low volumes. I play a Strat thru a nice old Fender Blackface Concert Amp, but I can rarely turn up beyond 1 or 2, so the natural compression of the amp doesn't get a chance to kick in. So I've picked up the  JOYO JF-10 Dynamic Compressor pedal from Artist Guitars. Now let's see what it does.

The first thing I did was search the net to find the best way to set the controls, those being Sustain,
Attack and Level. The best advice I found was the simplest -  just turn it on, adjust the levels until you like what you hear, and you'll get a more satisfying, but still quiet, guitar sound. And guess what? You do.  I even gave it the ultimate litmus test a few days ago - a gig with backline supplied. I've walked in with guitar and pedal board, plugged into a tiny Roland Cube and thought "here goes nothing". But I was really happy with the way the signal cut thru, and the usual problem that is encountered with these pedals "noise" wasn't an issue. The guy behind the desk found us a surprisingly easy mix, with guitar, bass, keys and a heavy-hitting drummer, and I found my guitar easy to pick in the foldback mix. We have several songs which go from chords to single strings, and I'm used to being either too soft or too loud. This time I didn't have that problem. Thumbs-up to the JOYO in a live situation.

So the JOYO gets a good rap from me. It's been really handy already in a live situation, and I can see its use for recording, too. There's more for me to experiment with, but already it seems a good fix for my low volume woes. Definitely worth a try.

Excellent pedal. Solidly built. Guess what? It actually compresses and sustains! Better than most pedals on the market. As good as the expensive stuff, if not better. Fantastic value.

Great little pedal

By: sean dwyer on 21 February 2018
Works as advertised, this compressor is kinder to single coils than humbuckers (it's an excellent boost for my coil-tapped SG) unless you fiddle with the internal trimpot to give the attack more room. Otherwise it's a very transparent compressor for much of its range, so less squashable than most. Works really well with my modelling amp or even just with a preamp DI'd and that's for both guitar AND bass! It's a no-brainer purchase.

Little compression, quite brittle

By: James on 29 January 2018
