Artist WBS200 Solid Wood Weissenborn with Pickup

With the WBS200 we took our original WBS100 and made some nice improvements.

Firstly we added a piezo and magnetic preamp. The Cadic 3 preamp has a built-in chromatic tuner, 3 band EQ, Phase (phase can help reduce feedback)

The reason we added this preamp is wanted you to have the ability to get a natural sound (using the piezo) or a more dirty blues style tone from the magnetic pickup. You can also blend these both together to get any variation in between.

Then we changed the finish to a super light open pore (open pore means that the surface is very light and you can still see the grain in wood, as it uses much less paint than a gloss finish it allows the Weissenborn to resonant stronger and more clearly.

The last thing we changed was the machine heads, we changed these to a standard diecast for superior tuning (the old vintage style machine heads look great but they don't work as well as a modern diecast)

The same as our WBS100 this fantastic value Weissenborn is Built from All Solid wood for the ultimate tone.

SPECIAL NOTE - Weissenborn's can only tolerate certain tunings to avoid bridge, bracing and neck problems. String gauges can be  .014-.056  (.014, .018, .026w, .034w, .044w, .056w) allow G, D and similar tunings. The WBS200 is strung with D'Addario EXP16 strings

Your Weissenborn could be damaged by higher tunings or thicker strings (anything that adds extra string tension - ie tuning or heavier strings). The string tension should be no more than 165lbs at pitch.

Pros and cons

I found the best point was the chunky saddle. With contemporary glue and manufacturing techniques it limits the chance you could damage the soundboard. With a traditional weissenborn the saddle is much smaller and that is why you get a lot of cracked and warped problems with them. In saying that, you will find the tone and sustain deadend during to the excessive height of the fretboard. Its chunky size diverts it function more toward a bracing component which seriously detracts from the tone and sustain of the geometic potential of both the small and larger bouts. Making the sound closely resemble a solid neck acoustic with minimalising the point of the hollow neck and winging top bout. Personally I prefer some of the other design's of the headpiece which don't curve from the body, but rather bubble out like the originals. This makes the headpiece look like longitudinal and with added individual chrome string fasteners tend to remind me of traditional Chinese design. This and in addition to the inconsistant length of the heel will make you purchase seem more picturesque than the sound you imagined.

good value for money.

I love this instrument. I can't really spend a few grand on a custom made wiesenborn I can't justify spending that much money on one. This is a great alternative. Plus the built in tuner really helps me as a beginner on this instrument

Amazing Value!

I’m so impressed by this Weissenborn made by Artist Guitars! I have been interested in getting one for many years, they could only find craftsman-built guitars costing a fortune! I love the quality of the build of this guitar, and the pick up configuration is just awesome! Extremely happy with this purchase, as I have been with several other purchases from Artist Guitars. Delivery has always been very prompt, and customer service is excellent. Thank you once again, Artist Guitars ( currently awaiting delivery of the TC 59 telecaster plus case… Can’t wait! )

Weissenborn

By: Ben Riley on 20 June 2019
Got to say I've bought a lot of stuff off Artist Guitars, inc guitars, keyboards, pedals, etc, but I have never bought anything better than the Weissenborn 200. It is a beautiful instrument exceeded my expectations by a considerable amount. Sounds great acoustically as well as amplified well-made and a pleasure to play. I had given up hope of attaining one of reasonable quality at a reasonable price, coupled with your excellent service. Well done
