About this Nux NCH1 Monterey Vibe Guitar Mini Pedal

NUX Monterey Vibe, born to recreate the grand, yet complex, psychedelic rock guitar sound of the 1960's and 70's. It features all of the classic Uni-vibe style selections: Chorus, Rotary-Speaker, and Phaser pedal. We modernized the original 4 stage phaser circuit ( a pulsating bulb surrounded by 4 photo-resistors ) by replacing it with a powerful 32Bit floating DSP to process our custom algorithm. What was the outcome? A perfect mimic of the complex physical-phenomena of its original analog circuitry.

NUX Monterey Vibe generates a truly unique effect tone; a mix of chorus, tremolo, rotary, and phaser. This unique tone can be found in Pink Floyds Breathe, Robin Trowers Bridge of Sighs, and the haunting audio mood created for Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix.

The earliest Uni-Vibe effect pedal came out in the 1960s. Cutting-edge guitarists were seeking a replacement for the heavy rotary speaker amplifier--configured from a standard amplifier for the electronic pipe organ. The original Leslie speakers did have a charm of their own, but it was more than compensated for by gaining the phaser effect, and the ease-of-use of a simple pedal configuration.

Just like the traditional Uni-Vibe pedal, you can switch between Chorus ( the Uni-vibe effect ) or Vibrato, by simply holding the foot-switch. In Chorus mode, the mix of Phaser and dry guitar signals produces a classic Rotary sound. In Vibrato mode, your pitch modulates between high and low. Both modes yield a rich, vintage vibe at any speed, intensity, or volume.

Good vibes but not chorus.

By: on 28 December 2021
This little pedal does a rather good vibe sound and a flanger kind of "univibe". Although I was hoping for a chorus sound as mentioned in the description - it doesn't give you the spacious detuning that you would expect from a chorus. Also I think it's rather odd that the second control (volume) is a preamp rather than an effect level. Why would you want a preamp on a vibe pedal? The firmware at this time is still in it's 1.1 release and the firmware updater did nothing. Hopefully NUX will tweek the DSP to change preamp to effect level. Other than that the tap tempo is a good function to match slower tempo vibeing. Overall I guess the fact that this pedal is now velcroed to my board is a testament that it has some good vibes to share.

I Got My Monterey Vibe

Teamed this with the red Joyo mini volume/wah. With these two and a fuzz pedal into my amp, I soon got that certain Mr. H tone that I was looking for. Worth the price of admission just for that. Nice that it does more and I am enjoying playing around as and when. Very solid experience!

This was an impulse purchase because of the price. I need to delve into it a bit more, I was hoping to get that "rotary" sound that was in my head. Would I recommend it ? For the $$ its a good buy, sound quality is good, it's mosdef gig worthy.

Outstanding at any price

My first encounter with this pedal was in front of a live audience yesterday - I had to demonstrate it. This is always a risky thing because sometimes expectations aren't met. Not so with the NCH1. I own an original Shin-ei Resly Tone and have reviewed and owned many of the high-end 'boutique' versions. I would rate the depth and sonic dimensional effect of the NCH1 up there with and in some cases above many of them. This is an outstanding pedal at any price and at under $100 it is a no-brainer, absolute bargain. Highly recommended.
