Artist LP59 Gold Top Electric Guitar w/ P90 Pickups

The LP59GT90 features a Gold coloured top and two Cream "soapbar"-style P90 Pickups. These stacked P90 Pickups are coil-splitting, so using the push/pull control knobs they can be switched between normal P90s, and stacked, creating humbucker-like tones.

The Artist LP59GT90 guitar is a top-of-the-line guitar whether it be for gigging or recording and is definitely one of the best guitars on the market in relation to quality and price. This guitar has a great rock/ blues sound that easily produces that big fat fluid sound so typical of any top-end guitar of this style.

The African Mahogany body is finished off with a single-ply cream binding over carved poplar cap, with a very thin basswood venner that provides an ultra-smooth paint finish. The set neck is made of mahogany and features an eco-rosewood fretboard. The 22 fret neck is a comfortable "C" shape with trapezoid Mother of Pearl inlaid into the eco-rosewood fretboard. With the typical 24.75" scale length you are sure to bend notes as well as any blues or rock player going around.

The guitar is finished with an impressive Gold Top while the back is a clear polyurethane finish. It features deluxe hardware, with chrome locking tuners, a Tune-O-Matic Bridge with Roller saddles, and a Locking Stop Bar Tailpiece.

We also use the best electronic parts to reproduce the classic wiring configuration. 2 Volume and 2 Tone Control, standard 3-way toggle switch, Split Shaft 500K pots, 0.022uf ceramic capacitors and 1/4" Input Jack.

The factory strings are standard D'Addario EXL110 strings.

Its' all about the tone

By: on 21 March 2024
Awesome guitar. Can't praise it highly enough, and I have quite a few guitars. It's all about the tone and playability. Artist have got the pickups in their guitars sorted. The P90's in this guitar are awesome as are the humbuckers in the ES335 that I also bought. Playability is excellent. Much better quality than the named brands at a fraction of the price. The only downside is the setup out of the box, it's not great. I have a guitar tech who has set both guitars up. and they now play great. I was going to rate it at 4 stars, because of this, but the guitar is a 6 star guitar so 5 is the right rating. The service from Artist's Customer Happiness division is also excellent

Just Fantastic

I received the guitar in a perfect condition. It took 2 weeks, but it was Australia Post problem. Artist Guitars were fantastic, cheking on the delivery and communicating with me. Thank you. The guitar itself is just great. It is my second guitar purchased from Artist. The quality of this instrument is amazing. It is not inferior to Gibson that cost 4k to 5k. This one is equally good but 10 times cheaper. It came already set up, even intonated correctly. I just lowered the action a bit. It plays very well and the P90 pickups sound good to me. I recommend this guitar and the company Artist Guitars to all interested in LP type of guitars.

Just awesome

I was lucky enough to get one of these before they quickly sold out. What can I say other than its an absolutely beautiful guitar. It looks great, feels great and sings like a bird. Amazing value for money. If there was one little thing I could pick on, it would be that I was surprised how deep the colour was, almost like a burnt orange rather than gold. I had to look at it for a while and take it in, but then after playing it I just fell in love with it anyway. This guitar is a keeper for sure. Thanks Artist, great product and service.

Worth the wait!

By: on 14 July 2022
Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Gold Top, (I didn't buy the hard case) after missing out on two separate occasions, ( by that, I mean by not ordering strai ght away!) The simple truth is, this guitar is just great! Plays as good as any guitar I've ever picked up! This is my ninth Artist guitar, and friends can't believe the prices that they go for! Anyway, review time:- Frets are perfect, no sharp bits, the neck is good to play, anywhere on the fretboard (no dead spots!) Good bodyweight, (as expected), the finish is damn near perfect, and the reason I say that is because it was purchased as a "factory second", so Artist Guitars must be very fussy about the condition of their products! Which is a compliment to them, and their committnent to quality! Of course, locking tuners, coil-splitting capabilities all go towards it being a worthy instrument! Of course, as always, it's value for money, but, more than that, it's about the quality of the guitar that you buy! All in all, this guitar, I would use it live, or in the studio, and be proud to do so! Thanks again, Artist Guitars!

Update

By: on 5 July 2022
Just an update on my previous review of the LP59GT. After some correspondence with Artist about the finish issues on my guitar, and a two other things, Artist very generously offered compensation. We agreed on a 20% refund to make the amount paid equivalent to a factory second. I am very happy with that, as I have been with the resolution of any issues I have had. Which have been very few. Anyhow, I have set up the guitar the way I like it, including swapping out the ceramic magnets in the pickups for Alnico 2's. I absolutely love it. Artist are an extremely good company to deal with, and looking at other guitars I have purchased from them, I consider the issues with this one to not be the norm, and I have had some very nice guitars from very good companies in the distant past, so I do know what a quality guitar is like. I look forward to sampling more of their wares in the future. The new 2022 range looks tasty. It's a shame that I have only recently changed my TC59 to single coils after a couple of years of ownership. I could have saved myself a bit of effort. Oh well. I am upgrading my star review to 5 due to the excellent service from Artist, and the fact that I am grading it now as a factory second. I cannot recommend these guys highly enough.

Gold top LP

By: on 10 June 2022
Just got my gold top and it’s fabulous, I love it, the finish is superb and the sound is just great, sposed to be a factory second but it looks perfect to me, I honestly don’t know how they make them so cheap, I have got a stack of Japanese built guitars from the 70s and I love them but really these guitars from artist are not in any way inferior in my opinion. I love them. And I think the Telecaster model I bought a few months ago off them is my favourite of all my guitars.

We are happy to hear that you are satisfied with the guitars that you have purchased with us. Thank you for your kind words.

All in all, it's very good.

Ever since Artist announced this guitar I have wanted one, as I have never played a guitar with P90's before, and I love Les Pauls, so when I got the chance with this last lot that were available on pre-order, I got one. It arrived today, and at first glance is a thing of beauty and wonder. Closer inspection revealed a few things that I was surprised about, but nothing that affects it's playability. A lot of where the gold top meets the binding is rough feeling, there is a light bit of gold inside the top of the cut out, and the edge finish on the pick guard looks very second rate. But it plays nicely out of the box, the intonation is close as, and it sounds great. The weight is about right for an LP. This is the third six string electric I have bought from Artist Guitars. I can't say that the finish is really much worse than my Ibanez ARZ200FM, which, even with the good discount that I got when I bought it, was probably around $300 more than the LP59GT on it's own. So while I mention these "flaws", I am not put off, it's still a nice looking guitar, plays beautifully, and sounds great. I actually like the flexibility of the stacked P90's, whereas I tend to leave my two coil splitting "Bullbucker" equipped Artist guitars in the mode that replicates the model it's copying. ie. HH, or SS. In fact I am going to put single coils in my TC59. My wife thinks that I should have enough guitars now, but we'll see. Especially if Artist ever does anything with "Filtertron" style pickups. Lol. Anyhow, the service from Artist was A1, as usual, but just those little finish things on the guitar knocked the star rating back. Still love it though.

The only Goldtop you will ever need.

By: on 9 June 2022
As previously mentioned in my review of the LP59TRB Deluxe, though I neither wanted or needed another guitar, especially a LP Style one, I bite the bullet and bought two, the LP59TRB deluxe and this. Both delivered very promptly, undamaged and together. Both set up and very playable straight out of the box with just a bit of tuning to do. Both had a fine white powder on the fretboard (maybe for protection) though this came of with a bit of sweaty playing. Both came with, Bone Nut - Fret Nibs - Coil Split - Locking Tuners. Both came exceptionally well presented and playable and apart from some untidiness on the binding at the end of the fretboard/neck, perfect. This has been the only con, this finish was just slightly worse than the 59TRB. I don't know why it is, because even though the final finish on the LP59TRB is absolutely stunning, I mean, ABSOLUTELY, ridiculously stunning, somehow the Goldtop just out shines it. Maybe it's the history behind it, maybe I  just like shiny things, I really have no idea, but catch a reflection of yourself playing it and you just can't help but get a second look. It isn't some dull fenderish shoreline gold, but a shiny in your face, sparkling metallic, look at me I'm as subtle as fxxk machine. And the sound? Can I swear? Because Fxxk me, these are, killers, Killers... Any genre is easily handled by these awesome P90's, hard rock, blues, jazz, man, I cannot praise them enough, if you cannot dial in a tone to die for with these, you really shouldn't be playing. If you haven't heard P90's before or thought that they wouldn't suit your style of music, do yourself a favour and YouTube someone playing one. My favourite pick ups.. Someone mentioned the weight, well, I'm a tele man so no problems there. Telecaster 3.9kg. LP59GT90 3.9kg. There is also talk that these come out of the same factory that makes HB, though to me this would be a bonus if true. Money for value, unbeatable value for money. Now, within 4 hours of receiving it, I in my haste to show a friend, dropped it from shoulder height. Dreading the worst, I gave it a thorough inspection for any cracks or major damage. As bloody playable as if it didn't even happen. A minor chip out of the back of the headstock and a bloody chunk gone from near the input jack, but unnoticeable to the uninitiated. (fxxking annoying to me) Now, my review here ends with this. Bad luck for me, but good luck for Artist, as this is a beast of a guitar, killer sounds and that beautiful gold finish mean that I'll be looking at getting me another sometime down the track.

Very nice goldie

By: on 23 March 2022
Plays great out of the box, just need to give the frets a polish and it will be perfect. Basically i love everything about the guitar, my only minor disappointment is the pickups. They sound good, but they are a little bit low output. I was very excited that they are stacked, but they do a very odd thing, they are softer on humbucker and louder on single coil. Not significantly but it is noticeable. They do sound much better on single coil in my opinion. You do get the typical single coil hum, although it's not significant. Overall i love the guitar, it's outstanding value and quality.

Very successful purchase. I requested on line when guitar would be available to purchase. Received an email a couple of months later saying stock was about to arrive. Ordered the guitar online. Excellent online communications from Artist throughout purchasing and delivery process matters. Guitar arrived very swiftly and really is absolutely brilliant value for money. Great finish on the guitar, superb sounding pickups. All that is needed is a change of strings to my preferred brand, a few very simple set up tweaks and it will be VERY fine thank you. Very impressed with everything actioned by Artist with my purchase and the guitar is just terrific in all player aspects and finish. At 10% of the price of a new Gibson and way more than half the price of a new Epiphone, this Artist guitar for me is extraordinary value and quality. Well worth the wait.

Great Value

By: on 2 March 2022
Really good guitar. The stock bridge pickup seems darker sounding than the neck (could be on this guitar only) but I'm replacing these with Seymour Duncan hot p90s so it's not really an issue for me. The gold top is really nice, just more on the orange side compared to my Gibson. The neck setup is perfect out of the box. Really happy with my purchase

A few months ago I heard the online demo of the LP59GT90. Unfortunately it was out of stock for quite a while. I recently put one on pre-order. It arrived in just three business days. First class packaging as always from Artist. The gold top finish is stunning. Set neck and locking tuners, unheard of on guitars several times the price. The action and intonation were perfect straight out of the box. The P90 pickups deliver the signature Les Paul tones and the coil tap produces more Fender like sounds. The materials and workmanship are Artist's trademark high quality. I've owned two Gibson and several Epiphone LPs. This one more than holds it's own. It's my seventh Artist guitar and I'd highly recommend it for any level of player, you'll love it.

It's a keeper!

By: on 10 February 2022
Wow, just wow! Pros: Not only delivered in record time but this LP59GT90 has exceeded my expectations, talk about value for money. Played through a Fender Champion 100 amp (just using the onboard effects via the foot switch), coupled with the push/pull volume controls on the guitar man, the range of tonality the P90's provide is fantastic. Very punchy, solid and warm on the rhythm and middle positions. The bridge pup may sound a little thin to some ears but for "chicken picking" it's perfect. The tone controls also give a broad range of sound dynamics which is another plus. One thing I do like is that the neck is not too thin or too narrow for my largish hands and fingers. This guitar also looks good in the flesh and a big plus, the colours really appeal to my finance! Cons: The finish is quite good apart from some very minor paint run which is hardly noticeable. The setup is acceptable, minor fret buzz here and there although am of the opinion that a good setup when the strings are changed will sort this out. The nut feels a little sharp to the touch but again, nothing a good set up can't fix. As stated, I've not played through my effects rack as yet but from just playing the guitar through the amp, wow, just wow! For this price point, I am very, very impressed. Must mention that as always, the guys at Artist Guitars provide top notch customer service. When I had trouble pre-ordering, the issue was sorted post haste. Thanks a bunch and I'll be keeping this one!

LP59GT90

By: on 30 December 2021
Received just in time for Christmas and was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this instrument. Everything is great quality, fit and finish is immaculate. Sounds and plays fantastic. That great P90 quack. The price for these guitars certainly doesn’t reflect the quality. Only one small negative I could find was the frets need a slight polish as they feel slightly “scratchy” on the strings. The fret ends are smooth and no edges, locking tuners are smooth, roller bridge is great. Great job Artist guitars, I can’t believe the value for money of these guitars.

Goldmine!

By: on 16 September 2021
This guitar like all guitars I've bought from Artist guitars arrived promptly and in perfect condition! A quick tune using the locked machine heads and it was ready to play. This is a high quality guitar and easily suitable for gigs. The split coil bullbuckers pickups are powerful and flexible with plenty of time combinations. It roars when played loud, and has great sweet tones for jazz and blues styles. It is impressive in any setting! Get one while you can, they will sell fast!!! Another winner from Artist!
