Firstly the service from Artist was first class as ever (well packed and popping up on the tracking app fast). The actual pedal is versatile. I bought it mainly as a preamp to go in front of a power amp only section but it can obviously be used as part of any board, and it has its place there too. I do think it benefits from an IR (speaker emulation) after it for my main use, but that's fine. I am talking old school usage as I personally don't bother recording much. My son did try it through a DAW into his recording set up and said fine but nothing remarkable versus what he can get anyway through his digital (incl. soft ware) set up. I guess the latter may depend on very personal tastes and how much time you want to put in and he is not really a pedal person. I did hear it can his when the gain is really up. I can verify this but it's past the target sound it purports to be good at also IMO, and so I won't be troubled by the issue anyway. Much of the older stuff has a lot less gain than many seem to think. I mainly use my guitar's vol into it, but it takes OD/boost pedals in front well. All the above and six very intuitive control knobs, all through a quality enough circuit, all wrapped in a robust case means that this gets 5 stars and easily so at the price
