Amazing sounding amp

By: on 27 August 2023
Great service from Artist Guitars and the Joyo JTA05 is a really amazing sounding amp. I have a katana 100 but was interested to know what tube amps are like. At the price this was a good way to try. Out of the box this sounded better clean than the Katana. Though to be fair to the Katana I was able to dial it in to sound more like the Joyo. And with a boss ds-1 pedal I'm getting nice sounding distortion. I think it sounds better than the distortion on the Katana. Maybe tube amps really are better? Either way money well spent on improving my guitar gear knowledge.

Great little all-tube practice amp !

By: on 1 July 2023
Artist Guitars are great people to deal with. The amp was delivered at lunch time the day after I ordered it ! Love this little Joyo 5 watt all-tube practice amp. Only an 8 inch speaker but that keeps the cost & bulk down. Very clean & warm. No tone control or reverb is not a problem for me. Breaks up nicely/creamy at higher volumes still suitable in a home setting. Circuitry/tubes a little like a mid-60’s blackface. Dare I say it; it’s like a baby Princeton at a pauper’s price.

Great Champ on a budget

By: on 14 March 2023
If you’re looking for an inexpensive champ clone, then look no further. Great tone for the price. Speaker performs well out of the box but I expect improvement as it breaks in. When hooked up to a Fender 12” speaker it really shines, especially if you have a tube screamer in the signal path to shape the tone.

A class in every way

By: on 13 March 2023
I got this as a customer return and have been pleasantly surprised. Its the first A class valve amp ive had that actually gives that authentic valve sound. Simple controls, volume thats it. I use it with my pedal board and its ideal for this. Pumps out a good volume too. Overall ill use it for practice and small gigs and have effortless cool valve creamy sound. Thanks Artist guitars you guys rock. Did I mention speedy delivery.

Sweet Baby buyer beware

By: on 4 December 2021
I have 2 of these both customer returns, one was not functioning when purchased so Artists gave me a further discount because I had to fix it , turned out to be a bad crimp connection on the mains power switch a relatively easy fix for a trained professional , now the second unit has stopped working the problem is a little bit more involved. Lost 6.3V supply to the heaters of the 12AX7 and the 6V6 tubes. After complete disassembly it appears the wires from the transformer were pinched between the transformer laminations and the transformer cover producing an open circuit on the 6.3V windings. Both of these faults were obviously caused during manufacture. They do sound great though when they keep working.

Great Small Tube Practice Amp

By: on 17 October 2021
If you're after that Fender small practice amp sound (which have been used by some of the greats in studio recording), then this is the amp. It's not the smallest of practice amps (about 30x30x20cm), but big enough to house an 8" speaker (you can fit a 10" if you're handy). Other than the obvious black Tolex used to cover the amp, the circuit is based on the 1956 Fender tweed Champ 5f1 schematic with only a few differences (rectifier is 5AR4/GZ34 other than 5Y3, bypass cap on the first triode, 8" celestion speaker while Fender's an 8" Jensen). The amp itself isn't real loud (maybe a little louder than speaking) and simple to use (turn it on, set the volume). The amp reacts to the type of pickups you're using (single coils generally sound clean up full, humbuckers get dirty about 1/2 to 2/3 volume and start farting out). An overdrive pedal works well with humbuckers as it takes some of that bottom end out and clean the signal up a bit. At the price you can get these (even full), the parts alone cost more than a kit amp of the same specs. So if you're looking for a practice amp that won't bug the neighbours, want a small amp with some character or just want to experiment with the 5F1 circuit for mods - this is the amp for you! I know this one's going to be a keeper.

Good value amp

By: on 25 August 2021
Happy with the amp overall. I was getting a lot of rattle from the cab even at fairly low volumes. I seemed to have solved that by reoving metal screen that goes around the valves. Happy with the purchase.

Joyo JTA05 - Get One of These.

By: on 1 June 2021
Bought this from Artist Guitars via ebay. No dramas, thanks again, Artist. Anyway, internet banter tells us this amp is the same as the 50's Fender Champ circuit - for real. It has a Celestion speaker as standard and some modders have gone back to it after trying substitutes. So how does it sound? Really good! I have done a side by side comparison with another 5watt 8" Celestion loaded amp, that shall remain anonymous, and it kicked butt. The other amp was good but the Joyo was fatter. I also played at lower volume at a friends house, with a nice delay in front of the amp and no break up - very pleasing. Humbuckers and singles sound good but this becomes subjective. I tried both and I'm happy. There is one mod that may be worth doing - copied from http://www.thecolonel.id.au/index.php?p=1_23: "Add a 25uF/25v bypass capacitor across the 1K5 cathode resistor on V1 (first triode). This cap adds grit and gain. It is not shown on the original 5f1 schematic but is apparently present on most vintage champs." This mod should brighten the sound somewhat however you might think this unnecessary and the sound straight out of the box is pretty fat and lovely, just not terribly bright, which could be a good thing for lower volume settings. This amp is a steal for the price. Just get one.

A great sounding amp!

By: on 19 March 2021
This amp is exactly what I needed. If you are looking for a small amp with a great sound then consider the Joyo JTA05. The review from a previous customer listing the pedals he used with it was very helpful in my decision making. I have a Big Muff, Fuzz Face, Tube Screamer, and Vox Wah, among others, and they all sound fantastic through this amp. Yes there are no onboard effects on the amp, nor aux input, but the high quality, warm tube sound more than makes up for it. There are 2 inputs so what I have done is use input 2 as an aux input when required. i.e. I use a 1/8" to 1/4" converter and play music from my phone into that input and jam along to it. Just be mindful to change your playback settings to mono when doing this or you will only hear half the mix of whatever song you're playing. There are also 2 speaker outputs for 4 or 8 ohms. I played it through a Marshall 4 x 12 cabinet for curiosity and man it sounded big! It did get fairly hot after half an hour through the cabinet but I guess a 5w combo is not designed to be played through a 4 x 12 cabinet. At some stage I will take the advice of other reviewers and upgrade the tubes, but for the moment it sounds fine as it is. I'm also looking forward to hearing how the 8" Celestion speaker will sound once it's broken in. New speakers usually take 20 to 30 hours of playing time to run in and then tend to sound better. So this great sounding speaker should sound even better soon! If you are considering this amp, just buy it. You won't regret it.

O Joy

By: on 11 March 2021
I've now had one of these amps for two months. I practiced through a valve 'gramophone' when I was young, and liked the soft clipping it produced, but have no recent experience of other valve amps. Present day comparisons are to a V-Amp through some P.A. speakers, and a Fender G-Dec modelling amp - both model some nice tweed / class A sounds, and can add delay effects and EQ unlike the Sweet Baby. Neither of them has the tone or immediacy of response of this little amp though. It gives a feeling that you are hearing what your fingers are doing (right or wrong!) in real time, almost as if you can hear your fingerprints brushing across the string windings. From Tele twang to humbucker oomph, there's always a musicality, and any breakup when you drive the amp feels tonal rather than harsh. It has plenty of volume for home use and if you are a serious learner thinking of buying a solid state practice amp, I'd say this is well worth the extra coin, and the responsiveness is likely to help improve the dynamics of your playing. I don't gig on guitar (sax player) and if I did I'd probably look into which pedals complement the basic tone, but it's lovely as is. My only regret is the couple of months I told myself I didn't need to buy one - wish I'd got it sooner.

Joyo JTA05 5W Class-A All Tube Guitar Amplifier

By: on 2 March 2021
How they can make and sell these things for the price is beyond me. The sum total for the parts alone is way in excess of the asking price and the build quality is excellent. I have top end amps as well (Brit Vox AC30, Fender Tweed Bandmaster, etc) and this little lady can hold her head up high. It's a ton of fun and sounds the business with any guitar be it single coil or humbucker and you won't miss any tone control 'cos the tone is perfect as is. Whack a decent set of valves in it and it is stunning and it's still cost you stuff all. There's no excuse not to have a decent tube amp when you can get one of these for the price. It's cheaper than a decent pedal! And buy it from Artist Guitars, their service and pricing is excellent. Happy I am.

Warm sounding, simple to use!

By: on 23 December 2020
With just a single volume knob, there isn’t much you need to do to get this thing sounding great. Keep it below 3 (out of 12) on the dial and it’s warm and clean, past 3 out of 12 and it gets both a loud and gritty. Keep turning the knob and it gets dirtier and dirtier. With humbuckers it really snarls - great for blues or Rock’n’Roll. I’ve run a few different pedals in front and they all work really well - couple of big muffs, delays, chorus, fox tone machine, fuzz face, super fuzz, muff fuzz, tone bender (I love fuzz pedals and this amp works well with them all!), and at lower volumes an overdrive works wonders. I think it’s the best practice amp I’ve ever had. And even though it doesn’t have a bunch of third rate fx built in its sound is so good you’ll quickly realise you don’t need 1001 amp/cab emulators - just a great responsive WARM tone with plenty of volume for home practice, recording or jamming with others. I did swap the stock preamp tube with a few different ones I had here, and settled on a tung sol. It also has speaker out jack, and sounded great through a 112. (I was actually planning on building a 5f1amp (which this is a clone of), but the parts alone cost 3x or more what this thing does - just the power and output transformers here in n aus will set you back more than this thing is new - add a speaker, jacks, knob, pot, turret board & components and you looking at the better part of a grand. Granted, this thing has a couple of pcb’s inside and is mass produced in China, but it sounds fine (my plan was to actually gut it, keep the speaker and transformers and re build it, but it sounds great so I’m keeping it as is for now - BEWARE valve amps can keep lethal voltages in the circuits even when switched off - don’t tinker if you don’t know what’s what!)

A new standard at a price musicians can afford

By: on 1 September 2020
I've been a professional musician for 40 years and this is the best deal I've ever seen in a REAL guitar amp. You get a massive valve amp tone , form clean , breaking up all the way through to Marshall-type overdrive, and the sound is not lacking in any way. 5 watts is plenty for home use, but louder than you might think, and the price is half the amount that it would cost to buy a kit to make the same amp your self. To be honest, I'm now eyeing off the 20 watt-er , for the odd gig or 2. Great work Joyo .

Great amp

By: on 22 May 2020
I like the joyo sweet baby amp so much I purchased 2 of them and run them together as l play blues the tubes break nicely at small gigs and mic through pa at louder gigs

First tube amp

By: on 23 March 2020
Never tried a tube amp before and at the price I couldn't resist .I'm sold they really are a great sound and with a joyo tubescreamer I'm just loving what this amp can do ,great buy , highly recommend.

Still Going Strong

By: on 29 August 2019
This is probably the best Champ-Alike on the market. For practice, nothing at this price-point will deliver the same sound and tube feel. Great for technique practice, anything clean (country, jazz, etc) right up to some reasonably heavy stuff - think Led Zep at low volume (almost ;) ) It's rugged and the PCB is mostly (if not entirely) through-hole so you can fix anything that goes wrong. If you're into modding or building, this guy is an unbeatable source of donor parts and chassis/cab/speaker, etc ...

Joyo JTA05 5W Class-A All Tube Guitar Amplifier is

By: on 13 August 2019
I just couldn't resist the Joyo Sweet Baby amp when I saw some reviews, including Shane from In The Blues. After it arrived today I plugged it in, tried it out with a couple of guitars & was blown away. Sure, it's a cheap amp & gets a bit raspy & flubby past about 4 on the volume & even some rattling (I'm sure re-seating the tubes will fix that), but once I plugged in some pedals it was just magic. I bought this amp because it looked like great value with the 8" Celestion speaker, which I figured worked out as better value for money than doing a speaker swap in my Vox AC4C1BL. Now I reckon my Joyo Sweet Baby will be my go to amp & my Vox will be relegated to backup amp if I blow a tube!

Love this amp

By: on 13 June 2019
This amp is absolutely awesome. Just plug in turn up and play and this little Beauty really kicks out a great sound. It takes pedals very well and cleans up if you roll back on the guitar volume but when you turn up and really dig in this amp is loud. I've used it for both practice and warm up and also a few smaller gigs and it was perfect.

Classic Tube amp sound!

By: on 23 May 2019
Love this little beast. Warm all tube sound, simple, and lets the player and guitar do the creative work. No gimmicks. It's remarkably loud and clean and it breaks up real nice at high gain. Someone said it's only 5 Watts (rms). I was in a church hall in a band and had to turn it down. They couldn't believe it's volume and tone. The Celestion Speaker helps a lot too. A classic, Having built valve amps as a young feller back in the 60s it brings back memories and I love it!

Great little jigger.

By: on 13 March 2019
After a less than auspicious start with no sound out of my first offering. My replacement experience was pain free. My second offering works just fine. Nice tone. Pleasant breakup when pushed. My pedals have taken on a whole new life too. Even my wife commented on how good it sounds. What a great amp for a great price! I'm looking forward to trying other products in the range as I'm one happy camper.

Great little amp

By: on 14 May 2018
My first tube amp. Nice warm sound and more than enough power for a practice amp which only gets used in my house. My only complaint is that I have to cut a little tone off my guitar as it's a little harsh with high frequency tones compared to a vox amp I also use, not really a problem though.

A great test of your return process - it works-and I will be purchasing more items from you.

Sweet Baby

Visited the warehouse showroom and came away with this Sweet Baby Old School amp to go with the Cherry 58. Great customer service and made to feel right at home while trying out the Cherry & Joyo in the amp room. The build quality, sound & retro look of this amp is awesome. Not the amp I intended to buy but so happy with Ian's recommendation. If you are a new player or just want a simple no frills old school tube amp that packs plenty of punch as well as being nice and warm at lower volume you can't go past this value for money amp. For the price it's a no brainer. Do yourself a favour and get one. I am super happy with the JTA05 thanks Artist.

Believe all the positive reviews. This tiny amp has great tone and very mobile. Build quality seems to be very good. Priced attractively as well.

What Good Value

By: on 12 May 2017
In a nut-shell, This little amp packs a lot of raw punch. It has just become my favorite new toy. This is quite a serious little amp. It is as clean as a whistle and has some bite when you feed it. I can understand why amps of this type have left their mark in music. You don't need big brands to get what this is doing. Internally it's as good as any small Fender or the likes. You could take this on stage, mic it up and blow people away, I believe. I play bass guitar so my guitar playing is pretty limited to home/workshop, where this thing has more than enough punch. It's a good size with a Celestiion speaker and a good match of tubes. I wanted something compact that I could record with. This Joyo is perfect for that. I just can't believe how nice it sounds for a couple hundred bucks. It's very well finished also. It has a back-to-basics old school look about it oo, which I like. I just wish that (quite well made) big chrome Joyo plate on the front made me think of Detroit when I glance over at it when playin' ...but it don't quite have that magic. But hey, It sure takes me there when I shut my eyes and just listen. No magic in that. Just good quality, I guess :) Thanks Artist. Very nice product. TrevorD

Joyo JTA05 5W Class-A All Tube Guitar Amplifier

By: on 30 April 2017
Great compact 'Baby' with a more traditional tone than a typical practice amp. Much more convenient than dragging your gigging amp out for a play. It seems louder than the "Five Watts" it is quoted at (maybe because this goes up to 12 [not just one, but two louder] Nigel Tufnel would approve). The cabinet is solid feeling & the covering is nice & tidy. On 6 you can hear the grit starting when you pick hard. Many reviews on youtube. Good quality & price - a more than worthy purchase for what(watt) you get. **Gerry, Wollongong**

Yep....a little ripper

By: on 21 June 2016
After I did my research (laptop on lap, headphones on, ignoring wife) for a week I ordered this amp from artistguitars. It arrived just after a week (Perth) 1. Mine has a Celestion eight 15 speaker! 2. The speaker is not hardwired but plugged in the 4 ohm connection, the amp also has a 8 ohm connection! so an external cabinet can be connected 3. Its loud, plenty of oomph 4. sounds so, so much better than the id:core40 I have, different worlds For more info, watch the demos on youtube, I haven't seen a negative one yet.

Joyo JTA05

By: on 9 November 2015
Firstly Guys many thanks for your excellent service / super fast delivery. These days there are a few surprisingly good SS Amps but in my opinion nothing replaces that raw honest sound of a Tube Amp. This little Joyo is a surprise package, great cleans and nice break up with both a Strat and Tele. More than enough power for a practice amp, good compact size and weight. Build quality appears to be good, not jaw dropping but still very good and your not paying in excess of a grand either. At this price range I doubt there would be nothing else that would come close to this little beauty, Guys I don't know how you can do it for the price, a great little amp, 5 stars from me. Cheers Alan

Buy one of these they are great

By: on 2 October 2015
I must admit I was seriously considering one of these all tube amps when I purchased my Blackstar HT-5RC. Looking back I should have just bought this Amp as I paid near $900 for mine and my friend has one of these little guys and it sounds unreal. I think I might see what Santa brings me for Christmas. Seriously if you want nice clean tones, crunch and overdrive for practicing on at home this is the amp for you and at $199 it is a steal.

Just Perfect.

By: on 5 September 2015
This is a clonealike of a Fender reissue. The Fender sells for nearly $1000 more. The fender doesn't do anything extra nor particularly better. I build hand-wired amps. I cloned the Fender. Mine's better ... but mine cost $600 more in materials alone and doesn't **sound** like $600 more value. Seriously; if you have $200, buy this amp.

Joyo 5w valve amp

By: on 9 September 2014
Nice little package, great for quick tryout of musical ideas or as a practice amp It provides some nice valve crunch when wound up full volume and it can be controlled fairly well from the guitar pots. 4 or 8 ohm extension speaker capable. Miked up it could be a handy little studio amp As i purchased it for the special price of $199 i am more than happy with its performance.

Joyo 5W tube amp - awesome

By: on 31 January 2014
ignore the $199 price tag, this little thing rocks. so perfect for bedroom jamming, bought a yamaha THR10 for that... and that too is an awesome amp in its own digital way....... this is just raw, tube tone, tube break up, distorts abit early for me but its still awesome... buy it.
